Default Voltage Regulator and P0340

Recently replace cam shaft position sensor to correct idle and drive-ability problem. It seemed to totally solve the problem. Now a few months later it has the code again without the issues as far as idle, starting etc. I was doing some reading and saw a few article on the effect of having over 50mv of AC at the battery and stating that anything over 50mv can cause a glitch and make the PCM throw this code even if the sensor is ok. Anyone have any input on this and does anyone have any experience with just changing the voltage regulator/brush holder assembly since this is the component responsible for rectifying and cleaning up the output from the alternator. The car is a 2002 but only has around 45k on it. Im very technically inclined and would have no problem replacing that, but wanted to know if anyone else has any experience with doing that as opposed to replacing the entire alternator. I see around 90mv at idle no load and around 200mv with load ie the lights and AC on. I do not currently have an Oscope but will have soon, so I can not look at the output visually.

http://www.natauto.com/

i got the parts to rebuild mine form here, (called them) it only takes about 30 min, but you have to be handy with a soldering iron, and the commutator rings need to be in good shape.

^^^^good, the bad ones will be heavily grooved from the brushes, at that point its time for a new unit

Default Thanks for the replys

Well I feel better that it was a possibility, but I went ahead and ordered a new unit. I will rebuild the old one to have a spare on hand so I get the best of both worlds
