Default Accel SuperCoil Installed

$65.00 eBay - Brand New:

OEM -vs- ACCEL:

DONE:

I only bought this because I submitted a best offer of $65.00, and they took it. It had the original
one in there, so I just figured on replacing it anyway. Plugs and wires next.

Been thinking about doing this myself. Just got an S197 about a month ago, bone stock. Just threw in an x-pipe and 2 SLP loudmouth mufflers. Any noticeable difference with the Accel Coils?

Will let you know any changes today. I will load up the torque app and see if any
values change, mpg changes, or acceleration. It idles a lot better, but putting a
new OEM could have done that.

These have 10-15% more spark energy, and lower a rise time. Rise time is imporant
with spark timing advances.

Noticed that these coil packs only have three coils. Two plugs fire at the same time, so
1&5(coil), 6&2(coil), 4&3(coil). The only difference in the coil pack itself, is, for some
reason 1&5 is spaced slightly farther away from 6&2. Look at the tops of both coil packs,
see that the OEM they're spaced evenly, and the Accel, 1&5 has a slightly larger
cap from 2&6. The harness is four leads, power, Coils 1-3, and the ground is under
a mounting bolt.

It performed a little better... Better throttle response, and I was not into the pedal as much.
Still, a new stock one could have done the same thing. Engine coolant temp was also higher
than before. Pulled better on hills and upward grades. Smoother acceleration too...

That is awesome! Thank you very much for the follow up. I’ve been wanting to do a nice tune up and was debating ordering the Accel. I think I’m going to give it a shot!

Engine idle in gear has really smoothed out... Gonna do the plugs when it warms
up.

I also tried the 87 and 93 performance tunes. Believe it or not, the 93 didn't have
a reduction in MPG as long as you weren't stomping on the pedal. Both of them
lost MPG when cruising at 80. If Kept it to about 70 and under, they faired pretty
pretty well. Though, I really didn't notice the HP increase with the 87, but I did with
the 93.

I am not going to keep it on 93, because even though the MPG is fine, I am not
paying the price for 93 octane fuel...

Also used the firm transmission shift option, and yeah, THAT'S the way they should be!
