Default heads, intake, on sd

another dumb question guys but here it is. if i get a hold of a set ofheads. will it make any difference if they are gt-40 or gt-40-p?? ive heard rumors about header issues.... also how close are the gt-40 and gt-40 p heads to the cobra heads?? what about the intake and the intake manifold? are the gt40 intake and manifold the same as the cobras intake and manifold???

oh one more thing will there be some tuning needed if i drop in all gt40 parts on my sd car?

ok you should run the gt 40's not p's they are the cobra heads
you will prob. get these from a explorer so up grade the springs
this is a must
there isA header issue with p's but i dont know what
if you runt the true 40's they have 3 vertical bars on each end and near the plug on the end it will say GT
a cobra upper and lower will work out real nice
if you need anything else pm me

well the header issue deals with plug to tube clearence on the 40p due to the relocation of the plug in those heads and it really depends on the brand of header you are useing .and pimpinstang1 i would look up the specs on your 86 5.0 bottom end because i have heard that the gt40 and gt40p won't work on the 86 bottom end due to clearence issue thats why they have the e6 heads not e7's.
you might have to fly cut the pistons , just what i have heard not sure though . pm ih8chevy to find out for sure he has good info on the ford power plants .

ok what about the gt40 intake and manifold????? will i have any clearance issues with those on the stock heads??? btw i believe the engine came out of a 89-93 car it has the H.O symbol on it and the previous owner said the engine was rebuilt.

the plaque on your intake is a standard 86 5.0 h.o plaque , the 86's were h.o's too.if it has a 89-93 bottom end you will be fine with the gt40 set up and 40p , i would still talk to ih8chevy on the heads on that car the e6's i have no idea about .one way to find out what you have is to pull the valve pan on the passenger side and look at the casting number in the head should be down inside that area .

no it will have to be replaced , i recomended the passenger side because it is easyier to get to all the bolts on it to remove it . i was just saying you could take that off and find the casting number on the head to make sure as to exactly what you have . if the head is an e7 the gt40 up grade will be no problem as more than likely you don't have the 86 eengine in it because the e7's won't work on the 86 engines i am just trying to help you figure out what you have in the car so you no which direction you can go .

i would think the intake would be fine to swap .you could go with 1.7 roller rockers on the car this would increase your lift on your cam from .444 to .472 give ya a little more hp and i have found pedistal mount 1.7's for 180+ tax so not to expensive of an upgrade.
