Default What Can I Remove?

Okay so i just picked up this 85 a few days ago and i don't know anything about carbed cars to be honest...

There so much Sht under the hood it looks like its efi. What stuff can i take out of here that wont effect my daily driving and clean up the engine bay?

Could you guys please post pictures or try to explain the best you can on where to find each part that i can take off.

The engine is all stock. Nothing removed. Old owner said it still has the smog and emissions sht still in there.. The carb still has the big cover on it with those long arms comming from the air filter cover down to the sides.. Which take up a **** load of room.

I tried to find my camera but its disapeared.. Ill keep looking. But its totally stock. like nothing removed. So ill at least try and find a stock 5.0 carbed engine from factory.

I recommend you remove vacuum delay valves and hook up vacuum advance at the distributor directly to carb instead of at the intake manifold. You will get more advance at take off.

You may want to look at an older engine that has no emissions for the basics to get you to your base point of vacuum hose routing (sorry I have no pic's)

Also advance the timing to at least 14 degrees B.T.D.C.

Throw a K&N type of air filter element in there if you haven't already.

Oh about the EGR: Plug the vacuum source to it. You will get crisper part throttle response and in most cases better gas mileage. A lot of people will tell you to remove it but only plugging it is necessary.

What ever you do to the vacuum lines since you are somewhat unfamiliar with it is to do only one thing at a time so you don't confuse yourself.

i actually like that big ugly air cleaner. i ran dryer duct from the round plastic elbows in the apron near the strut towers down near the fog lights and it worked really well for a $10 mod

all you really need is vacuum to: distributor, brake booster, pcv valve. the rest can go

if you want to do mods for power the very first thing i would do is performer rpm high rise intake manifold, longtube headers and true dual exhaust. then some 3.73 gears but id find an 8.8 because i think you have 7.5 rear

next round of mods would be some good heads like edelbrock, nice cam, i like the f303 for that application, and 650dp carb

with all those mods the car will go high 12's 1/4, other then heads you can do it all real cheap, for total budget build get some gt40 heads off an explorer and live with the 600vac sec carb
