Default Need a little speed density help please.

Hey guys I am not new here I just have not been around in a very long time. Anyway I am trying to get a friends car going and I have not had my hands on a fox for years being I bought an 03 cobra. So take it easy on me haha.

OK here is what's up. Its and 87gt auto car.
Ran fine then out of the blue started running bad then just quit.
Checked fuel psi and spark that's all good.
So I jumped and said MAP sensor.
He bought one at the local auto parts its a cheap one. Now the car runs but I cant time it right. I put it on tdc several times and timed it but it wont run right. It will shut off or it wont start back up after the car is turned off. It acts like the timing is advanced to far. Im trying to set it at base 10 advance.
Plus the brake pedal is really soft like it has no vaccum...?\

Thanks for the help
Tim

Did you remove the spout connector?

Bubba yes I did. Im not new to 5.0's. Something just seams wrong here and im missing it because its been so long. I can tell you I did everything that is supposed to be done to time it. With the spout out the car dies if I try to set time at 10btdc. To me that is not normal. I never had that issue with my 88.

Motor dies with spout disconnected. Try using that as a post. I seen that before, just do not remember.

Sounds like the timing is out. Did you pull the no. 1 plug and make sure the dist is in correct? If the timing is a tooth off, the symptoms you have will occur.

I'm guessing his timing tooth is correct if it was running just fine before the whole incident. Have you thought hooking up a vacuum gauge and see what the vacuum is at? I'm wondering if there's a backpressure problem. You can remove an 02 sensor or both and see if it runs better.
