Default Need Carb Help

Alright i am getting ready to rebuild my top end, i am getting a edlebrock performer rpm cam, performer rpm heads, performer rpm airgap intake, along with a high flow water pump, scorpion performance (endurance series) roller rockers, hardend push rods, high torque starter, among quite a few other things. Now all this is going onto a stock 302 bottom (not looking for a racer just a rumbling street car). Now i need help with a carb the head intake cam combo suggests a 600 -800 cfm carb. I am thinking about going with a holley 770 cfm street avenger or would this be overkill? Maybe go with a 650 cfm? Any tips?

Stay away from street avengers. I ran one and then i switched to a Holley 650 DP.

I would go with a 650 if it were me.

what problems did you have with the avenger that made you change to a double pumper?

They always run on the rich side. I was running a 670 Avenger. The 650 double pumper performed much better and responded to the adjustments much better.

I'm running a Quick Fuel Mechanical 650 on mine. QFT and other offer carbs that are more expensive than an entry level Holley, but have more adjustability if it's needed.

I'm running an Edelbrock 600 CFM Carb. I ran it for 3 months now and I haven't had a problem.

stay away from edelbrock carbs. they make good stuff but there carbs wont last. as far as what u need it depends on what you want. if you want better fuel mileage then a smaller cfm. but if u want quick revving engine then go bigger. i'm not displacing what 87 stallion says but imo i havent had any avenger issues. for a street carb tho i think a dp would be a bit much

I agree with the 650 DP. Personally I believe a 770 will be too big no matter what the brand is. Stick with wat you know and dnt get too big of a carb! 650 double pumper should do the trick!!

I run a 670 street avenger and have no issues, but I've never compared it to a 650dp either...
