Default GT or GLX?

I recently bought my first stang. 1983 5.0 liter 4 barrel carb, Convertible. i ran the VIN and it came back as a GLX 5.0 Vert with a 4 barrel. I read somewhere that the VIN on these will not distinguish between a GT and a GLX is this true? i also heard that the only way to distinguish the two is to look at a sticker, ar a plate attached to the radiator support, if that plate or sticker is not there, is there any way else i can tell? it has power locks, but manual windows, front and back, the top is manual, the hood has a non functioning cowl, (not sure if the hood is original) but i belive these came on the GT'S? any info would be helpful! I also thought that the 5.0 cars were 5 lug and the 4 cylinder mustangs were 4 lug, mine is a 4 lug which is also confusing me.

All regular mustangs were 4 lug until 1994.

the only real differences between the GLX and the GT were the GLX weren't availible with the hood scoop (power bulge, the big hunk of plastic bolted to the hood), rear spoiler, or GT Decals.

Along the lines of your top I have to say I've never heard of a manual fox convertible, every one I've seen has been electric, look in your trunk for a big cylinder if its there then its a power top thats not working, also there is a switch on the underside of the dash for the power tops on those year models

Thanks enix and thats what i've heard, but i know a hood is easy to change, it has the plastic "fake" scoop, it looks like the trunk was set up for a spoiler or luggage rack, but i know those are easy to add, and as far as the decals, the car has been repainted, so the only logo on the car is the Ford emblem in the grill, interior, and engine bay emblems. the real reason is i would like to repaint it, and if its a GT than i want to put the GT decals back, and everywhere ive read it says there were only 1001 1983 v8GT verts produced. and my car has all of the signs that point to GT, but i want to be sure. and ive already looked for the hydraulics for the top and didnt see them, but it doesnt mean that the werent removed to make the car lighter. the previous owners were working on making it a 1/4 mile/ daily driver car. it even has a roll bar in the back seat.
