Default 302 swapped 92 foxbody. Help!

i have a 92 foxbody that was originally a 4 cyl and the previous owner didnt know what they was doing and dropped a carbed 302 in it. ive put alot of money upgrading everything to a v8 standards. they put a carb that was to much for the motor and is causing it to flood. i have a new smaller carb and intake manifold on the way but i went to start it today and now it wont start. im at my ends with this car but it will start and idle for a few seconds then die, and if i give it fuel after it has started then it dies on the spot. any ideas on what could cause this?

Size of the carb wont flood an engine .
How did they set the fuel system up on it?
Is it using the intank pump or a mechanical on the engine?

Some additional information about the setup will be good. Including what carb is on the car now including model number of carb. what intake and so on.

Flooding is the result of either stuck float valves, float is adjusted way to high, excessive pumping of the pedal trying to start the engine.

Pull the air cleaner , check to see that the choke is working correctly.
A vacuum leak between the intake and carb or the intake and heads or even an open port can cause the car to not start or not stay running .
