Default Fast GTI

I have raced alot of imports. Most don't keep up, but a few gave me a good run. Im going to tell you about a race between me and a VW GTI. This was a couple of years ago when I had a 89 GT that was faster than the one I have now. Anyway I came up to a silver GTI on cornell rd( not sure if any of you are from beaverton OR) but I pulled up beside him and paced him alittle. He drops a gear and takes off and hits the brakes. I pull up again and he hits it again, this time I take off after. We are neck and neck until a red light shut's it down. He is reving, we wait for the green and go. I get the jump on him and pull way. I won buy about two car lenght's. Around here there arn't alot of fast imports, but every once in a while you'll find one.

what mods do you have done to your car? I've seen plenty of GTi go into the 13s around here so i wouldnt be surprised to see a faster one elsewhere

That race was back when I had a 89 GT, I had GT-40 intake , ford racing cam, msd ignition, mac header, flowmaster exhuast 3.55 gears. Most of the work was done to the car when I bought it the only thing I added the ignition box.

GTI's can be fast if built right and if they have the 1.8T. I raced this one guy I know in his 02 GTI VR6, and I was in my Alero with a 2.2DOHC, it had exhaust and intake, this was before my header and from 0 to 65 he beat me buy 2 cars. Those VR6's should be faster, but their not. Now the 1.8T is way different.

I ran a VW jetta 1.8t and the golf gti, the jetta was just plain sad and the golf was a little quicker, but i stomped them both with my 02' GT bone stock....i hear there are some fast ones out there tho....this has been beaten to death but, with the right amount of money, anything can be made fast

This GTI was pretty fast, looked nice and clean not all riced out. Is it just me or does it seem that the most of the faster imports have a nice clean look to them. Not those all show no go cars.

Most of the fast imports around my area are just plain lookin and fast, then the slow ricers have body kits and 20" racing rims with 4ft tall wings and they are the slow ones, thats how I distinguish them.

yeah......youre both right. they may have exterior "enhancements", but, theyre not riced out. might have body kits, but, usually "tasteful" kits. but back home, yeah, the fast imports are the clean looking ones. thats what i like..........subtle.
