Exactly. I've also heard that Mitsubishi sends representatives to popular drag strips and raceways for the sole purpose of writing down license plate and VIN numbers of those EVOs they see racing so they can void their warranties. This has been documented and known about for a while. Pretty insane if you ask me !
They can void a warranty for racing???
And when did the evo become faster than the sti

That's the word yeah. Any time after you bring your car in for warranty work, they'll try to void it based on teh fact that they have you having "raced" it in the system. Really lame =/

EVOs have always been a better track car. As far as straight line racing they may be a bit slower than an STi, but their handling characteristics are much better in stock form than the STi, making them a superior track car.

In stock form the EVO is a better track car. It consistently turns better road course times. The 4g63 is a great engine too and it is much cheaper to modify to make the EVO faster in a straight line than an STi. To swap out the camshaft in an EVO takes like 10 minutes.

On the downside though, all of the EVOs I've been in have had really terrible interiors aside from the Recaro seats. Stock EVO clutches are notorious for sucking and Mitsubishi as a company really sucks too, the rumor has been out for a long time that it's going to go bankrupt. What do you do then with your factory warranty when the company who made your car goes under ? heh

As an even BIGGER downside, the new EVO body styling is SO FREAKING UGLY! What the hell were their designers thinking? I hate the 06 STi, but the newest EVO looks like its designers had downs syndrome or had a really bad night with a bottle of Absynthe.
Thanks for your opinions & misinformation.
I'll take it from here.
First off, Mitsubishi isn't going bankrupt...you must've forgot that in Europe, Asia, & Australia they are HUGE....in the U.S they aren't. Earlier this year, there WAS a rumor going around that Mitsubishi was going to pull out of the U.S because of low sales, but they have officially denied it.

As far as the interior being "terrible", well that's your opinion, and so is the body styling. Funny, I never heard that come from a Suburu owner but whatever floats your boat. Im the member of a suburu forum which im not going to name, and most of the members on it say they wish they got an Evo instead of a wrx and how much they love the styling.
Interior is fine with me. For the price I paid for the car, I couldn've had something with a better interior like a 3 series BMW or a G35 Infiniti...but I got an Evo because that isn't something your really concerned with when you have a car like this.

The Clutch on an Evo is great, unless your launching the car from a stop like a hundred times...what do you expect. And that's usually the case when you hear of these issues. Might I remind you of the past WRX transmission issues from several years ago? I would know as I used to work for a Suburu dealership service center. 75% of the customers that came in with problems with their clutch/trannies were under the age of 20.

I have a stock '06 IX MR edition.
Stats are as follows...
0-60 4.6 seconds.
1/4mile in 13.2-13.5 @ 103-106mph

Way to bump an almost 9 month old thread. [8D]

You're comparing the WRX to the EVO. The WRX trannies sucked 02-04, but the STi did not. My entire drivetrain is stock aside from the clutch and I'm running the amount of power as about 2 and a half of your EVO with no problems.

You're right, interior and exterior styling is subjective, and if you read one of my other threads, I do like EVOs and if I had to build up another import it would be one.

By the way, Mitsubishi lost $5.8 billion in Australia alone last year. The only reason they're still afloat in many of the countries they do business in is because the Japanese government bailed them out financially. "In June 2004, Mitsubishi Motors admitted it had systematically covered up auto defects for 25 years. Among the 30 defects, 4 had publicized in 2000. By that time, the company had $9 billion debt, with $1.9 billion loss in for the fiscal year ended March 31. The announcement followed by massive recalls of over half a million vehicles. At the end of the 3rd qurater, the half year result between April to Sept 2004 showed the company suffered net loss of over 146 billion yen during the period."

They're doing a little better now, but I certainly wouldn't call them a stable, profitable company.

The stock EVO clutches and drivetrain components traditionally have been known to suck. This comes from a lot of my friends who have owned EVOs, as well as some that have worked as Mitsubishi techs. My friend's EVO MR was only running about 346whp for example, and his stock clutch was already slipping with regular road use.

No need to get small ***** syndrome over an old thread =P
