I just dont get how they'd be that fast... they're heavier and less powerful then a Srt-8 charger for instance... and the Srt8's are low 13's... which would lead me to believe the Lightning would be a mid 13... and i've seen 99-04 GT's with the same if not less mods as mine run 13.4-13.6... traction allowing of course... lol. The only lightning i've seen that wanted to race me was when I was still stock, so it wasn't very fun, haha.. but I'll just have to find one and see how I do...

 

You sure wont see that much. I had about the same mods as you and I had to drive the crap out of it to hit 13.7 with GREAT traction. If a 97 cobra cant beat one from a roll, you cant either.

Not ragging on your car, but for a while there the Lightning was the fastest thing aside from the Cobra R that Ford had to offer, and the newer Lightnings(03/04) are pretty fast. Your car isn't slow by any means, its just that people can underestimate teh Lightning because its a truck. Also, the 03/04 Cobras and Lightnings are hideously underrated in the HP/TQ departments, probablt for insurance reasons.

 

From a roll after I got into my powerband in third (I had to downshift and play catchup like I said when I posted it) he stopped pulling me. If we had gone at the same time he probably would have put a little on me up till 90 then I would have slowly pulled away untill we broke 110. The rate I was pulling back between 110 and 120 I woulda just been walking off if we were neck and neck.

Lol, those things are just so limited at higher speeds because of drag.. but no doubt those things are damn quick. I still say good kill nan!

 

ahhh.. that explains it then. yeah, technically, i won. i shutdown after i passed him in 4th cause i actually thought he was braking. i really didn't think i'd blow by him like that since we were like dead even through 3rd.

 

Good kill man. The reason you pulled on him in the higher gears is because not only does the truck weigh about 4700lbs., they have the aerodynamics of a brick. They make huge amounts of torque, and are plain nasty from a dig or lower RPM's. However, once you get them up to speed, the fact that it's still a shortbed F-150 pickup truck does come into play.

What do stock lightnings run?? A buddy of mine is ******* on me because I lost to one by about a car. I studdered 3rd[:@]. He says he kills lightnings and he is barely above stock. I'm calling bs on him, what do you guys think??

 

There are guys on SVT forums with stock 03/04 Lightnings running 13.3s and 13.4s with timeslips, so they can be pretty fast when driven properly.
