Default Fast Red Mustangs at VMP

saw two real nice red Mustangs at the strip (Virginia Motorsports Park) today for a test and tune. one street driven Stange had Trick flow heads and intake with the 303 cam and was running 12.70's if I remember it correctly.
the other had a B&M/Holley blower with the long snout on it with a carb on a 347 and he ran 10.72 with it. he said he was running 10 psi with the blower.
the best we could get after 11 passes from my friends 533 ci altered running injected methanol was an 8.08 1/4 mile et at 163 mph with a 1.134 60 ft time, but this still wasn't low ET. a really nicely painted all steel Camaro with a 565 ci with nitrous ran a 8.06 at 168 mph!! think he later broke something as they towed it back and they packed up and left early. had a good time, got a little sunburned and my feet are sore too! I'll be back out tomorrow for the first points race with my Stange, wish me luck!

pack a lunch and take something wet to drink too. drag strips don't have the greatest food in all the world and their prices are not that good either. make sure you take some long pants as they won't let you run in shorts either. wear comfortable shoes that lace up tight. if you walk up on the starting line, the rubber is so sticky it will pull the shoes off your feet if you're not careful!
seriously, have some fun! take you time learning what to do and ask plenty of questions from some of the racers so you can learn the track rules and not do something stupid. whatever you do, don't spill any antifreeze on the track, the track workers hate that and the other racers won't like you for causing a big delay to clean it up. antifreeze is harder than oil to clean up and they hate it. if you can, it's a good idea to drain the antifreeze into a container and save it. then just put water in the radiator, you can always drain it out afterwards and put the antifreeze back in if you still need to be using it. stay close to your car in the staging lanes so if they start running your class, you'll be there ready to jump in and go. racers hate it when the person in the car in front of them has gone off somewhere and they can't get around it to make their run. don't worry about trying to cut down the Xmas tree with perfect reaction times, just concentrate on staging carefully but not so slowly as to hold up the racer in the other lane. you'll have some butterflies in your stomach on your first run, but they go away after you get that first pass under your belt. another very important thing- never turn off the track unless you know where the other driver in the other lane is! go to the last turnoff if you have to, but make sure you don't go turning in front of the other guy and causing an accident! most of the time I let the other guy get off first anyway, that way I know I ain't going to hit him.
have a good time and I'm sure you'll keep us posted on the results!
