I was one of the most dangerous drivers in the world when I was a kid. It's a damn miracle that I am still alive and did not kill anyone else.

The thing is that I wrecked everything EXCEPT my fast cars.

I don't know what my point is exactly. I'm just saying the way things worked out for me.
Me too...I've had too many speeding tickets to count and one wreckless driving ticket. I've totalled an LT1, to the point where everyone inside the car should have died, but I didn't....somehow. I've had friends following me trying to keep up and roll their cars just b/c I was being stupid.....basically, kids are stupid. I rode with a buddy the other day who's only 17 and it scared the **** out of me, brought back memories. Now that I'm 21, and have a car with twice the power as any of my other ones, I finally slowed down. Kids don't need fast cars, period.

Your only 21???

It's not just about kids. The reason you see adults driving more responsibly is they have alot more to lose (house, kids , career) and they are not willing to gamble that away on getting sued if they cause a wreck (there goes the house) or getting thrown in jail (there goes the job) or getting killed (forget seeing your kids). A teenager does'nt have those kind of responsibilties so there's nothing to hold them back on getting ballsey. Hell even an adult that was raised with a silverspoon and lives at home and has a ton of money is also capable of driving like a maniac. It all depends on what you have to lose that holds you back, nothing more (in most occasions)

I very clearly remember, when I was about 16, when I was in the car with a friend who was racing, dipping in and out of traffic at INSANE speeds, when I said to myself 'Self, you have too much to lose. Your girlfriend would DIE if I was killed.' and I told my buddy to slow down. That was it for me.

I'm 17, my first car was a 5.0 vert and I'm now on my second one (the vert was a POS and it now resides in our barn) which is a 92 5.0 hatch (the one in my signature). It's funny how I get made fun of for having the fastest car in my school, but I drive it like a grandma. I generally do under the speed limit on the interstate (it's 75 and I'll usually do 70 just to save on gas a little bit), I stop at stop signs, use my blinkers, don't do burnouts at intersections, and I don't revv my engine at or try and race anything that's got wheels. And everyone in our school wonders why I have yet to even be pulled over. It's simple, I obey the law, and it really seems to confuse them. I'm the only one in my class that has a job, so it's not like they have anywhere to go fast. But anyways, I'm just defending the teen v8 stang drivers, letting everyone know that not EVERY kid is an idiot behind the wheel. Maybe part of the reason for this, is that I've paid for both of my cars??? Where as most of these kids' parents buy them their first cars??? i dunno.

i agree. i dont act like an idiot unless its late at night, and out near dads house. 2 mile str8 stretch, no cops, hardly nobody lives out there. no cars after @ 8/9pm. its great. or if we go racing at the base of the mountain

I'm 19, what I've got to say is, Cars don't get people killed. People get people killed. I'm a responsible driver and so are all my close friends that are my age. The stereotypes are true that mostly teens are irresponsible drivers, and I can't stand all the punk-as$ kids who drive like idiots. Every time I went to a car meet, there were so many idiots speeding in the parking lot trying to show off. Most of these punks are highschool kids whose rich parents bought them a fast car. I think it is a mistake for parents to buy their kids fast cars as their first car. Basically I blame parenting.

they need to raise the driving age to 18
you think a senior in high school is any more mature than a sophmore? no..

EVERY SINGE problem you can think of with 16 year old drivers, would just be moved back two years to describe EVERY SINGE problem a 18 year old who just got their liscense would have.
y u guys gotta pick on the young guys. Yea im only 17 and drive a 99 stang but i dont drive like an idiot.

Oh and no my mommy didnt buy my car( i wish tho) I'm currently a senior n h/s and still put in around 40 hours a week at work. So ill admit that yea alot of teens don't deserve the cars and r fools with them, but not all of us
im so happy my parents got me my 97 v6 stang when i was 16. it was slow as ballz by today's standards (could barely hit 100mph), but it looked cool and sounded cool. it also got me into car audio instead of go-fast mods, and i made a good bit of cash installing for people and am now MECP certified. also, it allowed me to not have to work a standard job and focus on school...without that there is no way i would be where i am. i feel sorry for teens that have to bust their asses through highschool working full time. summers...good idea. part time...maybe. I don't know a single person that i ever went to school with or hung out with that worked full time during hs and still got into a solid university, and ive got some insanely intelligent friends...now they work full time for 10bucks an hr and drop out of community college
i woulda loved to use the "my dad didn't buy me shiat" excuse to be cool, but frankly, im glad and lucky he did.

btw. sr's are no more safe than sophs...if anything, they are ballsier and more dangerous instead of timid when driving. i know i was.

it took me having a fast car to learn how to not drive fast. now i feel bad going over 70 on the highway in my DD. gas getting expensive also played a role.
