f'real. Before the chip it was 122. One of our guys got in a chase with a motorcycle on a 4-lane divided highway; me and another traffic guy were racing to catch up to the chase as he was by himself. Rarely do we see speeds like that, except on this particular highway; and then generally only when catching up. I did clock a bike at 144, turned around him, caught up to him (not at 144, obviously)... but then he started lane-splitting. Hard to lane-split in a Crown Vic. Needless to say, he got away; as I was the only deputy on that side of the county at the time. [

] For a while, I had the highest clocked speed record for the agency, but then another traffic unit got a different bike (same highway) at 148... and CAUGHT HIM. (because the guy on the bike stopped. [8D] )

I work for the county here where I live for the Sheriffs Dept, but right now I'm just a Records clerk. But hope to be on the road sometime soon. I'm only 21, so I have some time to move up. Most of our Sgts and stuff wont let our Deputies chase after bikes because he knows their not gonna catch them.

With a chip, my '03 vic aerodymically topped out at around 138... damn light bar!

well yes thats because the cops car is all riced out with extra weight!!!!!!!! lol

Heh. I did see a state trooper with a wing on the trunk lid of a Crown Vic...[:-] I asked him about it, and he said the skid plates they installed to protect the undercarriage when crossing the median made the car "float" at high speeds, so he added the wing for downforce. I don't think he liked it when I asked him when he was going to add the "NOS" and "Veilside" stickers.

If this is a newer cop car we're talking about, it is most likely a V6 Impala. They are slow.
The Illinois Highway Patrol has some LS1 Camaros, I've seen a couple (I live close to the MO/IL border). A buddy of mine got pulled over by one.
