Racing for pinks is just like Fast and the furious... RICE
No, it is a high-stakes gamble, just because you cant afford it (nut-wise or money-wise) doesn't make it "rice". Hell, I cant afford it either, but thats like saying a high roller at a casino is a "ricer". Same concept, just a bit more personal.

So let me ask everyone.. Have you or would you ever race your car for the pink slip???? What are your thought on this?? I mean Ihave watched that show Pinks and wondered what were the ythinking ya know.. but if your good you dont have to worry about it.

Thoughts????
Nobody does this in the real world, it's a TV only thing.

I dunno, there are some pretty big players in chicago and texas that I bet would/do. I have heard of races that resulted in pink slips being handed over, or very large amounts of money.

But this is basically pretty boys with loads of cash from mommy and daddy having cars built for them. Whats one car when you can afford hundreds of them?
There are not many races for "pinks". Most races are for cash these days and beleive me, they are not funded by "mommy and daddy". Most by far are financially stable adults, sometimes middle-aged. By the way, I don't think the "Pinks" show is necessarily lame (opinion). Check out that show's ratings! If it were lame, there wouldn't be so many people tuning in and making Rich Christiansen and Speed rich! I know some folks scheduled to run on that show and will be filmed at Va Motorsports Park on Sept 16.

I am sorry, but when you see two 19 year old kids running around in cars that have 20-30 grand stuffed into them ,they are not funding anything themselves.

I have a pretty good job, and so does my ole lady, but if you have 20-30K in your car at the age of about 25 or less you gotta be getting it from somewhere, and it isn't from working at mcdonalds between school and getting drunk.

I totally disagree. By age 25 I will be making close to 6 figures a year and I started late in life (stayed out of college for a year). By close to 6 figures I mean 60-80K depending on where I move to.

I personally know people my age who have WAY more than 25K in their daily driver and its called WORK and not only that, but INTELLIGENT work. As in, they go out, they hit the market, and they get a KILLER job and get GOOD at it. Automobile traveling sales teams are a PERFECT example. 1 came to our dealership one time and they pulled up in an SRT10, a Crossfire, and a H2. ONe of them was only 18, he had a Dodge 2500 IIRC. Its all about luck and a little about talent.

NOw...for the most part you are 110% right, just remember, there are exceptions!

There is such thing as a V4 engine but definitely more I4s out there, but I was referring to 4V as in valves per cyl...

Hate ta tell ya chief, but I made 59,980 bucks last year (according to my W-2) and it isn't all its cracked up to be. My ole lady made right around 55K as well.

You arn't gonna be running around with 20-30 grand stuffed into your car plus purchase price making 60K a year. After you start paying for your house, insurance, taxes (ugg) etc etc etc it all adds up. I guess if you want to run around in a built car while parking it in the lot of your 1 bedroom apartment you can swing it.

Its pretty depressing really. 20-30 bucks an hour just isn't what it used to be

I'm 24, and I've got almost $20,000 in just the motor and clutch of my car alone, not including the turbo, exhaust, fuel system, engine management, suspension, brakes, electronics, etc. etc.. Lord knows how much all that other stuff adds up to hah. This has all been funded out of pocket, in cash, by me.

How did I do it? COCAINE IS A HELL OF A DRUG!

I'm kidding. It's a combination of:
1) A smart purchase. I bought this car for very cheap with a lot of the mods already done to it (body kit, suspension, in car PC, turbo kit, intercooler, DTEC). The brakes, engine, clutch, fuel system, engine management and tune are what I've added since.

2) I've worked hard as **** and managed the construction of a LOT of luxury homes. This is by far the #1 reason.

3) My expenses are low. This is by far the #2 reason. I live at home and pay minimal rent to the momdukes (mainly because it's literally impossible to purchase a home solo in this area unless you're making ~$90,000). I could probably swing it if I went in with some friends, but none of my friends are really responsible enough or doing well enough.
I don't have a wife, and I don't have any ****ing kids which is the real key (that I know about anyway ). I have no desire to have either of those things any time soon, so I'm saving a little money and having fun with the rest.

It is doable! You just have to get rid of the three things that really suck in life: mortgages, wives, and kids.

Lol, if you cant make 60K a year go any farther it is because you have debt. Credit cards, house payment, car payment, old college loans, etc. etc. etc.

I learned one thing from my dad and I learned it well, DONT BUY IT UNLESS YOU CAN PAY CASH (or you are trying to establish credit). If you were relatively debt free I am betting you could accomplish A LOT MORE! That is the reason that I waited until I got a close to fully payed scholarship to attend college. I could not afford that debt. I have always worked until I had cash to pay for my cars. My dad is nice enough to cover my appartment (100 a month after scholarship) and my books (2-500 a semester) and my food, gas, and insurance for me in return for me helping him with his business any time he asks. I think its a damn gracious trade on his part and yes I feel lucky for it.

Point being, with proper purchases and debt consolidation techniques you can do a LOT! with 60K. My dad makes MUCH LESS (after expenses for the business) and if he wanted 25K in a car he would have it, instead he chose to build up a 67' mustang with a 408 fully forged nitrous ready motor. Not quite 25K.

I'm with you on the credit part, but I can count on one hand the number of people I know that can afford to buy a house outright with cash, in our area anyway. Maybe if you live in bumxxxx of some state you can buy some land and a house for like $100,000, but anywhere within probably a 100 mile radius from DC (and I'd be willing to bet any major city / business center) you'd be hard pressed to find a home for under $400,000 that didn't suck. You can find condos for cheaper, maybe $250,000 at the least, but the majority of homes go for $500,000+, including townhouses... even ones that suck up in Falls Church / Fairfax / Vienna!

Point being, if you're maturing and have a family and need to own a house, you're pretty much going to have to get a mortgage. There's not really a way around it unless you magically save up hundreds of thousands of dollars, you inherited a ton of cash (i.e. trust fund children) or you're wealthy through your job.
