I will say this once.................Over the past few years the current top line Mustang (Cobra) has always been on par with performance with a base Corvette (with the exception of the terminator having a slight advantage over C5's stock for stock). The ZO6 is on another level. Round two is this new Shelby vs my C6 and straight line performance stock for stock is tooo close to call. I would however give the nod to the C6 in top end and cornering, but these are two different cars for two different types of purposes. Mustang=Drags while Corvette=road course. Why has this thread come about because we all know that Ford will never build a Mustang that can compete with a ZO6.

You know that old saying..."never say never".
I'd agree. Ford sells too many stangs and makes money with the stang. It was never intended to compete with a vette, though the cobras and Shelbys actually do perform close to the standard vette for less (most cases MSRP). Ford will leave it up to Saleen and Roush to come up with a car that will match the Z06 in performance AND price.

Every test I've seen has the GT losing in the turns and running the same or slightly better with a better trap speed than the Z in the 1/4.

Most straight line tests I've seen have the Ford GT out-accelerating the Z06 by a slim margin. Z06 owns the handling department (which I care about a bit less).

But I'm sure the Le Man's Drivers would prefer a ***** out straight line runner thats faster in the 1/4 mile over a better handling car...............lol
i think it was a motor trend mag that i was reading i was pretty sure they were comparing the Z06 to the shelby and the Z06 won by like 2 tenths of a second in the 1/4. i could be wrong maybe they were talking about the c6 but was pretty sure it was the Z06. so i don't think everyone is giving enough credit to the heavier, smaller motor shelby
