When I was in PA getting my car tuned after the meth install, the local Ford dealership brought over a brand new, right off the truck Ford GT to show Dave from Kaufmans. I had my video camera s I shot some of the car while the two of them were talking (I'll have to look for it). The car was gorgeous. I can't see how someone in their right mind would take a Z06 over a Ford GT and to me it has nothing to do with performance figures. The Ford GT is a whole different class of car.

I think your mentality that makes you believe the GT is a completely class of car is the price. But on a track its performance numbers and facts have shown that the GT is'nt running any faster or handling any better than a ZO6. So I'd like to hear your expanation on what makes this GT a different class of car.GM could have easily had an MSRP of $100K and this car would have still sold. Second this ZO6 is a huge step above the C6 base even more so than the C5ZO6 was over the base C5.

Price is not it. When I look at the Ford GT I look at a piece of performance art. When I look at a Z06, I see a Corvette with a more powerful engine. Don't get me wrong, the Corvette and the Z06 are great cars and the performace for the money is unbeatable. My brother's C6 has outrun some Porsche's on the highway. That doesn't make it a finer vehicle, just like the Z06's almost equal performance numbers don't make it a finer vehicle that the GT.

I posted 4 or 5 car that the Z06 outperforms: Ferrari's, Porsches, and a Lambo. I see those cars as a different class than the Z06. They are not just cars, but exotic vehicles. I don't see the Z06 in that way. What can I say? You guys are quick to call people Ford fanboys here, but many of you GM guys are just as stubborn

BTW, I found the video of that Ford GT. Nothing exciting, but here it is: http://www.senescenceusa.com/Ford%20GT%20Final.wmv

What a stupid question.

But what about a Ford GT vs. a Cobalt SS? Those Cobalts are pretty light. What do you think?
Dude a Cobalt SS would kill a Ford GT!!!!!!!

As long as the Cavabalt starts off at the 1/8mi and the GT leaves in the burnout box Seriously if you could get a GT500 at sticker price,I would rather have one than a regular C6,but the screw jobs that the dealerships are doing with the GT500 makes them more expensive than the C6,so *** that. The Z06 is the best performance car in the world for the price IMO.And as much as I love the Ford GT,for the about the same price you could get a Ligenfelter Corvette or a Hennesy Viper, and both cars blow the GT into the weeds performance wise.

I think the Ford GT is in another class. Not performance class but luxary/exotic class. The Ford GT is a great car but I would not buy one just becasue its rare and exotic. I want the whole package. Comfort, Gas milage, ridiculously fast, and price. So going by those specifications. I ended up buying a Z06. It has nothing to do with the GT.

As for a side note, there is one person here that I think is a fanboy. No need for names because you already know who.

Why, for not conceding that the Ford GT is a whole class above a Z06? If I said that the Z06 was head and shoulders above the Ford GT then you would have a point. However, no one here has said that. The general consensus on both sides seems to be that they are comparable in just about everything but sticker price.

It would be a close race if the ZO6 was in reverse?

See MrRogers post above yours. He gets what I am saying.

What's the difference between the Z06 and a Ferrari that isn't as quick as it? Again, it's not about performance. FOR ME, it the asthetics, the image, the prestige of the Ford GT that makes it a different class. I find it to be a much nicer car.

Here are some quotes I found in an article comparing the cars:

The interior of the Z06 is crafted a gazillion times better than the old car's, but that's like comparing a mule to a donkey; they were both compromised to start with. For nearly $70,000, you expect some special touches and top-notch materials, but they're absent. Every time you drive a new Corvette, you wonder why General Motors didn't spend a little more money to make its top-line sports car a standout in all regards.
We spent a lot of time looking at these cars in close company, and only the Corvette is a little anemic in appearance. The C6 looks good but isn't as flamboyant as it should be. It also takes a trained eye to spot a Z06, despite changes that include carbon-fiber flared front fenders, a different front fascia, lovely cast-spun-aluminum wheels, a tail spoiler, and four exhaust tips.
The GT, however, is the best-looking of the bunch. It says a lot for the original GT40 that the shape looks modern--futuristic, even--and it says a lot for Ford's designers that they updated the detailing and looks without spoiling the purity of the original
Everyone adores the GT, because it feels and looks so special. Sherman would take it, because "it is the most collectible, the most exotic, and I would keep it for the rest of my life as a valuable heirloom to pass on. Plus, it's great to drive." We spotted a couple of GTs in the paddock at the Monterey Historics recently, which makes sense: this vehicle presses all of a car geek's hot buttons. The only downside is the $162,195 price of our test car, although road test coordinator Marc Noordeloos points out that this undercuts its true competitors, the Ferrari F430 and the Lamborghini Gallardo.

The Z06 is the most usable of our three and also the least distinctive. It is also an incredible performance bargain, even faster and cheaper than the Viper. In performance, price, and driving pleasure, it blows the current Porsche 911 Carrera S away, although the 911 has nicer steering, a slicker gearshift, and a much better interior. Blackwell would take the Z06: "If I could afford a car like this, I would want to drive it a lot. It's such a stealth car, you could stay under the radar with it, it's easy to drive day to day, but it's nearly as quick as the GT."

I agree with you BicktyBam. I've seen both cars up close. IMO there really is no comparison visually between the Z06 and the GT. Park the two side by side and I guarantee most people are going to check out the GT. I see Vettes everyday and while the Z06 catches my eye, to many people it's still just a Vette. The GT is it's own car and the history behind it reason enough to envy it. If things had gone the way Ford had wanted the GT40 would have never came about and Ferrari would have been owned by Ford. All I can say is thank god for two ego maniacs.

can't hang??? i hear they are dead even. . . low 11's in quarter. . . and a $500 pulley swap w/ tune, 10's on the GT, can't say that about the Z06

but yeah, Z06 is a full second quicker in 1/4 than GT500

Dead even in the 1/4, loses to the Z in the corners and costs 2x as much...pully swap wont fix all that. Why not do a cam swap in the Z? I mean come on, people dont want to spend 150K for a car they have to mod to make faster than its competitors, for that price you should kick all other *** stock out of the box.
the GT ate the Z06 on a road course, 2 plus seconds in a lap
