That's pretty cool. However I think the engine has been around for a little while. It's probably related to the 5.0 modular V8 in the Mustang FR500 that competes in the Grand Am Cup.

It would be nice to see this car though because it would have a background similar to the old BOSS 302 in which the engine and car were designed for racing.

"Hurricane" engine? hmph. I hope they don't change the name to that...they should just keep it as "Boss" or something badass.
Actually I think what 05gtdriver was saying was that the "hurricane" ford project code name has now been introduced as the new "Boss" engines.
ooooh I see. Thanks for clearing that up.

They(Ford) needs to make that sucker ASAP! I love that Boss 302 concept........wondering if the new crate motor will come in shortblock form(and if the current 3V heads bolt right up to it.....why? I live in Cali and the Smog Gods frown on any tampering with something like a 3V to 4V head conversion....just wondering. Would rather have a Ford made 5.0L cammer shortblock than a "rebulit" aftermarket gamble). Anyone for 700 S/C'd rwhp without worries?

Just remember, the new Boss engines Ford is putting out as crate motors have nothing to do with the 302 motor they are considering for a (possible) 09 Boss Mustang. The production Boss car's motor will still be OHC.

And yes, there is rumor that Ford is gonna bring back the Cobra Jet moniker as well. Some say it will be a 5.8.....but anything about this is just speculation right now. Better to wait and see than get your hopes up.

I dunno the original post for this thread includes an article stating the availability of crate engine that will find their way under a future(considered) Boss Mustang.....331 cu. in. V-8 rated @ 500hp (sounds like a 5.4L modular to me)........just my interpretation.

Not sure if you're agreeing with me or not. To be clear........Ford is NOT putting a pushrod motor into a future production mustang. At least.......not for this generation. Beyond the S197 model....it's all up in the air.[8D]

Here's a more straight-forward article IMO:

EDIT: I guess I just don't want ppl to start expecting to see something like this in a production mustang[8D]....

It sounds to me like you're stating that the new crate "Boss" motor won't be an OHC, but according the various articles(including the one you just posted) the "new" Boss will be available this Jan will be an OHC. I realize Ford also has a vintage style OHV "Boss" engine so I'm confused as to what Ford is gonna start selling come this winter. Will it be both designs???? Sounds like the former "Hurricane" design, now named "Boss" and the soon to be available OHV "Boss 302 " are gonna be available at the same time?
Article states that the engine that will be under the hood of future Ford cars & trucks code-named "Boss" will be sold as crate engines this winter.....understand my quandary?

Here's how I understand it: Ford is offering a new line of Boss crate engines that are OHV. But the motor they will put in a possible future Boss Mustang will be OHC. In other words.......the Boss crate motors and the Boss mustang motor will have very little in common.......outside of the name "Boss", and possibly...displacement.

EDIT: And to clear it up a bit more......the first article posted above from Edmunds is very misleading. Read the article that I posted just above for a better write up of the new "Boss" phenomenon.

Ya know...Ford is resurrecting all these Mustang monikers like boss and the GT350-H. How about bringing back the 427 Cobra Jet in an 07 or 08 Stang?
Because it would have to be called something along the lines of Cobra Injector[&:]
