What all the jackass comments, the guy needs help shifting.

Take it to the track, shift at 5400, then 5600, then 5800. I am sure you will see a pattern emerging at some point. Look at trap speed as an indicator, it would take a HORRID launch to mess up your trap speed enough to skew it.

I say go to the track b/c everyone's car is different and responds to mods (even little ones) differently. What works fomr someone may not work THE BEST for you. After you figure out that per se 5400 is better than 5800, see if 5500 is better than 5600, ect and get it fine tuned to where you know RIGHT when to shift and then get a nice shift light and you will get the most out of her!

FYI in my 5.0 I shifted at 6300 on the stock tach and in my LS1 I shift around 5800 or so as it feels like it starts to level off after that.

Our cars make max hp at 5250. I hear that shifting at 5500 is optimal because the car stops making any power after that.
My 02GT is built and supercharged at 12psi. It makes power all the way to redline. My redline is 6600.
6600?! holy ****...thats nice.

mine kind of gives up after about 5000-5500 (I'm basically stock) Time for some comp cams for me.

all engines MAKE power everywhere on the power band, so long as it is running...

At some theoretical rpm it would take more energy to fight friction/rotating mass than you would gain by combustion...but then again I guess the motor would stall and not be running, lol. I think we all knew what he meant though.

"she"...

and my point was that shifting as high as you can may not be the best choice...i can twist my engine up over 8500, but there is no point...

Yeah, I remember when my Mustang was stock. It had a nice drop kick (automatic) then the power would just die. After I put on a charger, the power just kept on building. I remember giving my father a ride on the highway all the way up to 140mph. He almost peed his pants with me driving. He said this to my mother "the dong on car passed cars as though they were standing still. It kept accelerating at an alarming rate...." LOL! Loved it! Alarming rate....

usually shift at like 6200 or 6300, hard to tell in first it revs so fast

you want to shift a little bit after your peak power. after the peak, you are still making pretty good power, and the next shift will keep you higher up in your powerband. try like 5400 or 5500 if it peaks at 5250

First does indeed go by quick. I already hit the rev limiter and messed up a belt.
