Remeber, an M3 is still considered a 3 series and only LS6s can beat it.
An LS6 is the only thing that can beat an M5?
I say that because BMW is not a drag car. Only the Z06 can beat it all around, meaning on a track, strip of auto cross.

M5 run about 13 flat at around 108 mph. Some LS1s can beat it, but only the Corvette can match it in handling.

M3 run about 13.4 or so, about the same as most magazine times for LS1. But remember, what will happen to the Camaro when it's up against an M3 on the track?

Even Z06 are not as sharp as M BMWs, but it's raw power and grip will allow it to beat the BMW in track time.

I am stock except for an aftermarket airbox lid, not much of a gain at all. I don't have a lot of knowledge about or any experience with the M cars but from what I understand the M3 is about equal to an LS1 fbod or Mustang Mach 1 and the M5 is just totally badass.
Yes, at the drag strip it's about the same. But the BMWs lack of low end torque really hurt its et. Most M3 have a 2.1 to 2.2 s 60' time.

On a top end pull, the Mach would get its *** whooped, and an LS1 just might keep up.

No need to mention track times...

I don't autox (looks like fun though, I'll probably try it at least once) so track times really don't concern me. 13.4 is about what I do on the strip under optimal conditions and my 60 ft is usually 2.1x, so the M3 is about equal. If an M5 does 13 flat at 108 than it would smoke me.
The Z06 Vette has been known to run about 12 flat at 115.[:-] It handles, too.

Ah, I see what you are saying now. Yeah there is no denying that the M series Beemers are some nice cars. Them thar Germans know how to build 'em.
