Thats what I thought until I bought one my self!! I imight have just got a bad one but it was very unrelaible, keep in mind this was my daily driver and I am not exagerating when I say stuff broke about every 2 weeks
That's what I thought too. I figured it depended on how you treated it and people just exagarated the unreliability. new clutch, flywheel, blah blah stuff like that. 24x miles after I bought it...bam shuts down on the highway and gets this crazy ticking noise. Then you can't rev it past like 3000. Go get it checked out...the crank
Nice, my turbo decided it would go when I was driving from Calgary to Winnipeg (14 hour drive) right at the half way point, that made me happy. But the best was when the heater stopped working in January those were good times... damn I hated that car!

I'm definatley not a fan of the 2nd gen DSM's but the 1st gens are great cars. Sure they have some ECM problems and the timing belt issue, but damn they are fun to drive. My buddy and I use to own a couple of them and with a few upgrades made some seriously fun cars to drive. They weren't the fastest things on the street, but they were reliable, and very fun, and comofortable cars. The 2nd gen cars are the ones that have more problems. I.E. crankwalk, and transfer cases. Just go find yourself a well taken car of 1st gen and you'll be good to go.

Turbo going out isn't so bad. I wish that was my problem...you can pick up a nice 14b for like<100.

Kindda tough to find one though when you are in the middle of Saskatchewan and on your way to the grey cup!! Ya it wouldn't have been that bad if it had happened at home

Yea, I'll agree with the DD thing, but that goes for pretty much any quick/fast car. Once you start making twice the factory horsepower you should plan on picking up a beater for daily driving.

ROTM, good call on the 1g,got any plans for it?

he is asking 6500, but he said he is very negociable, i blue booked it at around 5000, so i will see if i can bring it down to that price. tomorrow when i call him i am going to ask about service records and such, i emailed him today and he sent me an email saying to learn more to call him when we can actually have a conversation about it
