have any of you guys ran into a second generation dsm(eclipse/talon), my dad wants me to sell the stang and get something that i can drive better year round, so im thinking of a 2gen gsx/tsi with all wheel drive. I know they arn't the most reliable but it will keep him happy, so what is your thoughts on them? how do they fair to a new edge stang? keep in mind in 4 years i will be done with school and have a real job so i can get a new stang

 

They can be made fast fairly cheap, but watch out, they can be made immobile even cheaper

lol, i know they throw timing belts, but i have a couple of buddys who have them and have replaced them before so i figure if i got one i would just go ahead and replace that kind of stuff right away and i think that would get me through the next few years of college

 

why keep him happy? you pay for it? a DSM is far from reliable, i drive RWD cars year round including snow, a set of cheap winterforce rubber amd 100lbs of sand and i prefer it to my buddies lexus es300

 

i payed for 2/3 of my car, and i kind of agree with him, plus my school isn't the safest of neighborhood, and i dont trust my car sitting out. i would in no way rice it out, if i got one, im just looking for something that will get me around a little easier in the winter, better gas mileage. plus i know a couple mods and they can be pretty fast. i think i set up a test drive for one this weekend, im keeping my options open, i just want to get a feel for the car to see if it is something that i would even want. who knows i may go back to having an explorer or something

 

You think timing belts are the only thing wrong

Wait until you're in a rush and you blow some intercooler couplers that's always fun. Hey thats nothing compared to a little something called crankwalk. I'm not saying that they're a bad car(lol) but you're damn fool if you're going to trust one as a DD.

Go over to DSMTalk and they'll tell you how those cars are the golden standard of performance and how much Mustangs suck and how they kill them all. Then you go into the tech section and everyones car is broken down

 

I had (HAD) one as my winter car for about 3 months, I really don't think it went longer than a week or two without breaking down, sure they are fun cars to drive and are awsome in the snow but mine was soo unrelaible I had to get rid of it, plus if you are a bigger guy like me (6-3 230 pounds) have fun getting in and out
