Default Track tips

Well ive had my '00 GT for around 3 and a half months now, got some new exhaust coming and when i get that i wanna start taking it out to the local track.

So i was looking for some pointers on how to improve my launch, shifting, and ET
Ive ran a friends car at the track once before and I give you guys credit, it isnt easy, so if anyone has a few pointers that would be greatly appreciated.

Everyone will have their own 2 cents to put into this thread, like me, but one thing remains spoken for - Practice practice practice. A few performance parts help too lol...

first thing I'd say is do not spin your tires right in the puddle at the burnout box, roll slowly through the water and get in front of the main puddle to do your burnout. spinning in the puddle just throws lots of water up into your wheelwells where it will drip back down on the tires after the burnout and make traction a problem.
you don't say what tranny you have so it makes it harder for us to tell you stuff. first advice is to let some air out of the rear tires, like down to 24 or so and see how this hooks. in an auto, I just punch it from an idle at the launch and manually shift it at the engine peak which i don't know for an '03 is. with a clutch, you probably want to rev to about 1,500 or so and drop the clutch while flooring the gas pedal and see if this hooks or not without bogging the motor down too badly. play around with the launch rpm and tire pressures to see what works best and keep practicing.

best shift points on a 99+ is around 5700 in first, 5600 in 2nd, and 5500 in 3rd - or right around those areas (this is for a 5sp btw - not sure about an auto)
