Amazing!
the hemi super stock cars are supposed to have had something like 600hp with some "minor tuning"..and they only weighed something like 2800lbs. think about how quick the new Z06 is, with more weight and less hp...
I still don't consider thatcar a "production car"... It's not built in masses, its not a production car. It's a specialty vehicle offered by the manufacturer. They built 50 of them! That's not production by todays standards.. it might've been then, but not now.. so you cannot disqualify any of the newer cars because of this. The FR500 is in the same class as this... they've built them for people - they're available from Ford Motor Co., but they're not in the catagory of "production"
true, but their only intention of building the car back then was to conform to the "production" rules by the NHRA, which they did...but even with 50 of each, i wouldnt call it a production car...
however, they are still probably the fastest cars to be built, and sold to the public, by any american manufacturer...with possibly the shelby cobras coming in second?

Just going by this:

They won't let you copy paste, but fromt there:
"from the factory, these vehicles were setn to Campbell-hurst corp for final assembly/modifcation to racer status"
Not to mention 12.25:1 compression, and the HUGE laundry list of added componets to the car (massive mod list) including replacing dammed near every body panel with fiberglass.
Its not street legal (can't be licenced at all) and they prodced only a few of them. IMO its not even close to being a production car.. chrysler/dodge didn't even make em into what they were, the aftermarket firm did.
Its like counting a 351 salleen etc etc as a production car.. its not, its a aftermarket modified car.
In any case... its still a junk dodge....
Edit: saying that it took 40 years and a 1.4 million dollar supercar is just utter crap... Hell, if it was even STREET LEGAL it MIGHT have a chance of making that claim, but unless you like the idea of spending the equivlent of 60K for 10 second car that can't be driven on the street...
Well, I would hate to think I coudl spend 60K on a car, even my poor little 2v, and only run 10 second slips and not be street legal....
