Amazing!
It took almost 40 years and a 1.4 million dollar supercar to finally beat the Dodge/Plymoth in the fastest quarter mile time for a prouction vehicle. What gives? I guess they just don't make them like they used to. It probably costed less than 10 grand off the dealer floor.

We've also had 40 years of government restrictions since then. You don't see dodge putting out 10 second cars today. maybe the production challenger will run 10's, that'd be nice.
The way cars are going we may see a production car break into the 10's in the next couple of years. The next Viper will have 600 HP & the Next Zo6 is supposed to be sitting on 650. I'd put my money on the Z06 if it does happen.
Where was the Koeninsegg CCX????? They claim it can do a 1/4 mile in 9.9 sec, which would make it even faster than the Veyron in the 1/4. The Veyron tops out about10 mph more though. The Koenigsegg looks a lot better too boot!
what will stop the automakers from bringing a modern vehicle like that to the showrooms is one thing.. money. they are worried about profit margins, and it is not cheap to make fast cars. the faster the car, the more expense to produce. that inflates the msrp, which will decrease units sold, which in the end, will decrease their profits. its just too risky for big auto to get involved with when they can make mediocre off the shelf muscle cars w/ relatively low hp, inefficient engines, that don't cost much, and are guaranteed selling a million cars. its all about balance between price and performance, its gotta be just right in order to keep the largest consumer group happy, while still making money for the company.
