The original hawks (early 90s) were much better performers than the run of the mill Fbody.... the LS1 hawks were comparable to the SLP optioned SS/WS6 with lid/catback setups.

The firehawk is an SLP performance package. It comes with an SLP dual-dual cat back, and a CAI. Thats good for about 10-15 more hp. It also has a different hood and firehawk badges. I'm not sure about the rear spoiler being different
Yea that's what they claim to justify the price, trust me it does not add much if any power, the cat back is not the major restriction in the fbody exhaust. I had the dual/dual cat back on my SS and it made difference in power between a stock 01 Z. I have had all these cars on the dyno at work, in both stock and modded forms, trust me, there is no differance, it's all marketing BS and hype.
How much more on average does a cat back and lid give you? I was wondering since those are the 2 mods ive done so far. I cant really tell any difference from stock other than the exhaust note. Thats should change soon though, since im about to order my headers and o/r y pipe

Question

JD1969- You mentioned that they are all (LS1's)aboubt the same on the dyno? Does this apply toall F-Body models,Forumals & Z28's,WS6's & SSand the Firehawks?

If you think about it: Covette 350HP, Firehawk 335-345Hp, WS6 rated around 320-325, and Formuals or the base trans-Am 305-310HP.
It would notmakes sence for GM to produce the LS1 in four different states of tune. Besides from Ram Air on them, what is mechanically differnt about these motor?

Year for Year... nothing is mechanically different on the engine... only things that change on the fbody models is exhaust and intake setups...

I've seen cars with a lid pick up 2 ~ 3mph before (of course conditions could have attributed as well)...I would say its good for a few tenths and a couple mph... not sure what dyno results have been.

They are mechanically identical. The horsepower ratings were adjusted by GM from model to model based on sticker price. Crazy but true.
It's all outlined in the "LS1" sticky on this forum.

I think thats why GM underrated most of the LS1 motors. Instead of having so many different tunes they just underrated the less expensive cars so they could go with one engine setup. They knew no one would care if their car was rated at 305 crank hp but instead made that to the rear wheels.

WS6's and Firehawks are exactly the same except for the hood and wheels sometimes. They were rated at more HP but like its been said there is no difference. The WS6 is only different from the base Trans Am because that WS6 package was basically only a suspension upgrade and some badging.
