heres the only circumstances a 2nd gear burnout should be done:

you have at least a 3.73 rear end,
you don't care too much about your clutch,
your rear tires are in the waterbox,
you don't start the burnout in 2nd,
you have drag radials or slicks, otherwise your heating up your tires too much and they will just get oily and slippery; wasting your time.

I have a question about the last post...

how do you start a burnout in 1st gear.. and then go to 2nd gear... with a 5SP~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

if you dump the clutch *whcih i have done 3-4 times* in 2nd gear....you'll heat them up nice, and you can hol the throttle to about 3-4 k or so..

*note* i will admit that my FIRST try at a 2 gear burnout, i bogged, and almost killed the car.. .LOL.. me owned

Hmm I do 2nd gear burnouts at the track, then again I do have a line lock, its not that bad, but yes it will wear down your clutch.

the idea begind shifting into 2nd gear mid-burnout is to ease the stress on the clutch by going into 2nd gear while the wheels are already spinning. the way to do this is as your holding a burnout at 5 grand in 1st, speedshift into 2nd and get right back on the brake. it takes some finessing but its not hard.

don't even think about doing it unless you have drag slicks/radials or your just trying to show off.

you really don't need to do a 2nd gear burnout 99% of the time.

I would like to accentuate that you should not be doing a second gear burnout in a manual tranny unless you have linelocks. It really is too risky for the minimal reward to be taking your foot off of the brake when the tires (note: slicks) are spinning 30-40mph and the car isn't moving.

I dunno........maybe it's because I've not set my car up for the track, but this seems like one of those ideas that should be added to the following:

trust me dude, if you try to speed shift at track with slicks on, the car will hook and go or clutch will slip bad. if you wanna do a second gear burnout, you should have linelock to make it safe or if you have enough power and a good gear ratio to do second gear burnout, then put it in 2nd and dump the clutch. it is that easy. I personally will not do a second gear burnout unless i run mid-low 10s.
