2nd gear burnout...

You have car that has some ***** and goes 10 sec on a 1/4 mile and i am assuming you are launching that thing hard. i see you doing second gear burnout. i am not saying i disagree with your statement. i sure do agree but i don't think it is necessary on most street cars.
2nd gear burnout > 1st gear burnout but my point is, you don't have to do 2nd gear burnout unless you are making good amount of power and you are gonna launch it very hard. I am amazed how my slicks Hooks when i do a 3-4 sec 1st gear burnout and i put down great low end torque (480lbs.)
stkjock, which kind of tires you have?

Start in 2nd and dump the clutch. I am referring to a GOOD DR or slick with some power backing it up. On street tires, a burnout is not only not neccessarry but can actually hurt your times. A simple dry hop to shake them off is all you need. Again, gearing coimes into play. Usually 4.10+ gears are when you may find 2nd gear neccessarry to get the 50 mph. For most guys, 1st works fine.
Don't care what anyone says, the MPH is the key...period. On good DR's or slicks, you want to see at least 50 mph during the burnout. Also adjust your tire psi to your burnout. A 50 mph burnout for 3 sec is going to raise your psi 1-2 psi so compensate for that in your initial psi setting.

I ran 12.5 psi in the ET street before the burnout. I have always had my car 60' under 1.6 even on the stock motor with 450 hp.
stkjock - you should have no problems seeing 50 mph in 1st with those gears. Like I said, ignore the rpm - you have a rev limiter and it's not going to hurt anything to bump it. Once you bump the limiter, feather the gas to keep those rpms up and the tires spinning. If you keep your eye on the mph bet you'll see 50 mph in first...

On more thing guys - rememeber the stickier you get your tires, the harder you should leave. Having the tires prime and ready and leaving too low can bog you down a bit also believe it or not. When I had the stock motor and a manaul with 4.10 gears, I would dump the clutch at 5500 rpm on the launch.

I would say the heat generated from the burnout would actually cause the air inside the tire to expand.

It's not just at 50 mph. Though the optimum tire speed, your psi will increase with any decent burnout. The amount varies by how fast and how long you spin the tires. The average increase is 1-2 psi. Typically, if you want your psi to be 12.5 or so for your run, you'll set the psi to 11.5 before the burnout.
Well I'm going to add my 2 cents... I've wanted to do a 2nd gear burnout for some time.
I did one in my 93 cobra, but the parking lot was newly sealcoated and with a little water it was like ice. I started in 2nd with 3.08 gears... BIG smokey burnout... The next time I tried that at a different location I smoked the clutch...
But I still wanted to do one and after watching some people on youtube I ventured out in my 05 GT to try. I'm pretty good at using one foot to hold the brake and hit the gas for a brake stand burnout. So I did a brake stand in first and as I let off the brakes I powershifted into second and it just roasted the tires. Stock except for a BBK CAI and a Diablo 93 tune. I also still had snow tires on...
I probably could have then hit the brakes with my left foot, but I'm not used to using it and I'd probably hit them too hard. Got to practice braking with my left foot to get the feel for it...
It was at night and I was alone so no action pics, but I did return to the scene of the crime today and got a couple pics...
Oh and at the track with street tires I just give them a quick spin in 1st.
