BTW an acquaintance of mine ran 12.89 in his wife's stock SS. He later built and drove the world's fastest naturally aspirated 6-speed car (9.71 IIRC,orange '99 SSon Pinks last season) so he obviously knows how to bang the gears.

my first race ever in my mach was against a ls1 (i was so happy what are the odds). i was in LA at ariund 12 am, i had my gf in the car goin home. i was in the left lane about to turn. across the street there was this copper colored SS with chrome corvette rims, looked pretty nice. he was at a gas station and as he was about to pull out, he saw me, u-turned and got set up to pull out on the same street i would be turning on. i try to teach my gf things about cars all the time but its difficult, i told her "that is the ss camaro, the fast one, look, you can tell he wants to race me, he' waiting for me." (u could tell he was an antsy/agressive driver, every little move he made was quick and xagerateda hemoved around in the gas station.as my light turned green, i got to second in the middle of the intersection. as i straightened up, he pulled around me. I didnt wait to honk, i didnt signal, or nothin i just punched it and he did too at relatively the sam time. mach owners no what happens when you floor it at 30-40mph in scond gear, the car leaps quick!! i went to third and pulled a car on him with my shift and i just left it there untill redline, he wasnt pulling on me but i wasn't leaving him, we stayed even after i gained a car on him. i just let off after that, gas is too expensive and he wasn't pulling, plus my gf was gripping the seat telling me to slow down.
The race was over and he pulls up next to me and revs hard again!! i told my gf, he just got dealt with and he's coming up beside me reving to restore any dignity i give him, i didnt rev back, he knew what was up, he didnt really want it again, i let him go in front of me so he could see what its like, his license plate said race or die, well i guesshesays it all ---> [sm=owned.gif]

"rustangs" "mustinks" "mustangs get walked by maro's any day of the week, what day was that then? havent they heard of a mach, 4v's or cobras?4v's are notpunk engines, either are ls1's butafter my experience, ls1's are nothing to fear. i dont no why i used to, i guess the name carries a lot ofconotation.

have you seen how the "cold air" hood works? its take the air through a rediculous tunnel then pushes it out on tip of the lid; this does absolutly nothing since the LS1 lid pulls air from the bottom. The hood is nothing but looks and im willing to bet it makes enough drag to cancel out any power it might make.
the free flowing exhaust is just a catback and not even a very good one. have you ever seen a catback give 15 horsepower? even you have to realize that is dumb. and on top of that the catback is an option you must order from SLP, its not even on every SS.
17 inch wheels? if anything there gona make you go slower

Pandaj, please read the "LS1" sticky before posting anything else. There is actual useful information posted there by people who actually own, drive and race LS1-powered vehicles, myself included. If you are getting your info frombs GM marketing literature (and people who get their info frombs GM marketing literature, such as Motor Trend and Car and Driver and the like) then you are being mislead. 310-325 bhp is a joke. It's the same motor as the C5 Corvette, rated (accurately) at 350 bhp.

My 98 TransAm was rated at 305hp and it was dead on. I was upset with the power so I bought an exhaust system to correct the problem. It then dyno'ed 325rwhp and 340'ish rwtq. It was super slow without the exhaust, definately felt like a 260rwhp'ish car. The exhaust picked it up another 65 rwhp or so and it really pulled hard, even for an automatic!
Who says the LS1's aren't best mod for mod? 65rwhp with just an exhaust setup! I should advertise for them.

seriously... even many stang owners know the ss was simply just a marketing thing gm did to sell more cars. the z28 isnt much different at all. i would take a z over the ss. or here, let me put it into mustang terms... look at the GT / Bullitt. ford took a pre existing mustang, added some simple mods... did some tweaking here and there... nothing amazing or worth the money considering aftermarket support makes better mods. and then they re badged it... and said "hey guys, its a new car, it costs more so it must be better!"
and either you have accepted the fact that you didnt own the camaro, and dont want to admit to it... or your just trying to fire up an age old z28/ss argument to mask it, so you dont have to accept it.
