I agree with ThisBlood. The Mustang and the Corvette are not in the same class and to compare them is ludicrous. The brainstrust at Ford aren't sitting up at night worrying about making a Mustang that will perform with the Corvette.

Theres no way. I saw the same thing on LS1tech a while back, but theres no way Chevy would be dumb enough to do that, they would lose all of their sales (if even it is priced less than 20k) just because the insurance would be ridiculous for a car that cheap.
you dont think its possible to have more than one 6 banger option?

i see possiblilty for another RS

All the whining about the new Vettes being so much faster..................give it up ppl For the extra dough it takes to drive one home, the Vette BETTER be faster than a Mustang GT..........by a large margin at that. When the next gen Camaro, Mustang, and Challenger arrive in the next year or two......then we can go about getting our panties in a bunch. Until then, lay off of the whole Vette vs. Stang argument.

If Ford wants to stay in it for the upcoming pony war, I say bring in a 5.0 DOHC for a new Boss 302.......and give us a big power NA 6+ liter OHV motor for the next Cobra.
As always ThisBlood, Your posts are dead on....I guess with the absence of the Camaro, The only V8 powered bowtie performance car out is the Corvette, so many ppl have no choice but to make that comparison.......Even though I think the whining you're hearing is related more to the powerplant (LS3)......not the car. Since at least one trim of the Camaro is sure to have this motor....I guess many ppl in here are getting a head start on the gripes and whines....lol

The vettes keep getting faster, and the stangs keep getting fatter[:@]. Ford needs to step up to the plate and give us a real engine in '09.
Soo true
Let's just pray they bring back the 302 or even a 329(New SVT Cobra, or a Mach 1?)
the 302 5.0 has the same limits basically as the 4.6 2v motor? now the 4.6 4v is way better than 5.0

+1 to both posters. I agree, the vette is in an entirely different class as the mustang. Although, the Camaro will be strong performer too. I guess we all need to just keep our dreams on the FI side to keep up.

maybe they could build a new 5.0 with a pushrod design that would give a little extra HP?

Well, a select few of us are currently taking steps to avoidhaving to whine about a new LS3 Camaro.

Ford doesn't need to increase displacement OR change to a pushrod design. They have already figured out how to offer high performance on less CI (with the modular engine design no less)... its called a supercharger. Your comparing a 6.0L engine to a 4.6L engine, and a high compression engine to a low compression one.

Theres a simple reason why Ford doesn't try to compete horsepower wise with GM in their base model "sports" cars... and thats because there isn't any reason to. The mustang sells great (outsold the Fbody for god knows how long... forever?) so long as its good looking, comfortable, and can be easily driven as a DD.

seriously... if GM had offered the LS1 platform it did in the Fbodys in a car the general public thought looked good, with an even half sane seating postion (who the hell likes to lay down when driving?) something of a trunk, and in a setup where you could acutally SEE what was behind you instead of using the force to back up the mustang would have been in trouble. Instead, they stuffed a great drivetrain in a car that simply sucks in a DD application, and who woulda thunk it... it didn't sell.

The GM guys better hope they don't make the same mistake. You HAVE to be able to sell the car without the horsepower... that is you have to be able to move ALOT of V6 units out the door to make the money. offering literally nothing but a great drivetrain only results in one thing... the car going the way of the Fbody/GTO.

For the last 15 years or so the mustang has been cheaper, lighter, less power and not as quick as the camaro...which will probably still be the case when the new camaro comes out. This is with the exception of the 5.0 fox bodies which were far superior until the LT1.

How do you figure the 5.0 was better than the 3rd gen camaro? The IROC-Z won the best handling north american car award twice and after they started dropping in the corvette engine (350) they would out run the mustangs in the 1/4 too. which means it accelarated faster and handled better. (and looked alot better imo)
