Vtech Kill
Thanks, guys. You're right, my car wasn't built for high speeds and unless I drop in a 5 or 6-speed, it never will be. I'm still pretty pleased that I beat him, but I wish I would have gotten a better launch so it wouldn't have been that close at the end.
With decent suspension they're actually not that bad. The aerodynamics is offset somewhat by them being light and sorta small, the profile ain't too big. But most newer 4 bangers have WAAAAAYYYYY better aerodynamics than a 60's Mustang, enough to make a difference, especially from a roll at highway speeds. As far as the 4 cyl vs v8, as was stated, you're talking about a car that's 30-35 years older, and prolly heavier. Sport bikes have 4 cylinders, some with less than 1 liter of displacement, but they're fast cuz they don't weigh jack. Bigger cars need bigger engines to be as fast as a smaller car.
Good kill, and work on the launch, the back end is light so on the street you gotta be careful launching. Swap some good heads on there and that same race....you'd have 10 cars by the top of 2nd. What are your cam specs? You might not wanna bother changing it if it's already decent(unless you wanna go from flat tappet to roller). 302's don't need big cams to make power if you have good heads and the right setup
As far as gears, stock gearing was 2.79 on most with 1 leg, some where 3.00, 3.25 or even 3.55 but unless it was a k code or a big block it was prolly a 2.79 or 3.00open diff

Unless you can fix the aerodynamics it never will be... I wouldn't feel safe moving an object with that shape at high speeds... Butt pucker x 10000.

If you're wandering at 110 then something's not right, worn ball joints, worn steering box(try tightening up the sector shaft, it may be out of the proper backlash range) etc. As far as me, it's a 302 with Scat 5.7" rods(still stock stroke length, but shorter compression height pistons), Mahle pistons, AFR 165 heads, Crane hyd roller cam, electronic dizzy/box, Weiand intake, Holley 570cfm carb, Hooker long tubes, pullies and some other junk. Just under 9.5:1 compression. Gonna get a supercharger some day, centrifugal and a blow through carb prolly.

Haha, thats the funniest thing I've seen in a long time! That 65 woulda done alot better with some decent tires on it...
