my buddy just bought a 2004 5.7 GTO- its an automatic. we were drivin around in it tonight and it seemed pretty peppy. we are going to race as soon as he gets used to it. (used to drive a pick up) i will post the results here when the race goes down (should be within a week) any predictions on the outcome?

 

Its gona be a close race. That 04 LS1 isnt really that impressive comparin to d 06 goat. It should be puting out about 320 to d wheels but it also weighs about 4000 pounds comparin to u that r puting down about 280 or so and weigh in at 3400 pounds. Both cars are capable of hi 13s so its gona be an interesting race. According to car and driver the goat should run 13.8 or in that range but Im guessing thats a manual so autos will be a bit slower then that.Good luck!

 

A stock automatic 05+ GT will not put down 280whp. It will be closer to 250whp.

 

This might start another GTO debate that goes on for pages but I have yet to see a stock LS1 GTO break into the 13's, I have seen plenty of S197's go mid to high 13's bone stock so your S197 should have the edge here.

Putting on flame suit now and going back to fixing the damn server that ruined my friggin day.

 

Mine put down 267rwhp bone stock and 299rwhp with a Tunable Induction CAI and B.A.M.A.Chips race tune.

 

That isn't a stock GT.

Turn off over drive and traction control

and auto vs auto its your race my old 07 GT ran a 13.7(conditions were perfect and great 10.5 tires on the rear)

and if you wanna play a crule trick, drive around with him for about 30mins and his engine will get heat soak you wikll both be putting down around 260 ti the wheels at that point and you will walk him hard...

Ive done this exact race in my 07 GT thats why i KNOW you will win, but if you can get a cai+b a m a tune and you ill put a car+ on him

 

Best time from the LS1 GTO is 13.5 @ 105mph (that I am aware of)...they are capable of it..but probably won't do it.

I am pretty good at getting a car off the line smooth and every GTO ive driven seemed impossible to launch smoothly.

 

thanks for the advice guys- is that heat soak thing true for the GTOs? the race will be taking place probably this weekend so ill keep you guys posted...
