Default M3 v. POS

I have never posted in this forum but i was recently reading a post about an M3 getting beat by a better driver and i had to add my $.02. Anyways, a couple years back before i owned the mustang I owned a 93 subaru legacy with a 5 speed, boxer 2.2l engine, with a fart can and a KN filter. I knew it wasnt fast but i loved revving it up just to see who would bite the bait. The thing is while it wasn't fast it was one hell of a sleeper. I never ran an actual quarter mile, but i knew from a local quarter mile run that went from a stop light to some railroad tracks that I could be doing in the low 90's at the top of third gear... Anyways one night I had a black m3 convertible with big chrome rims start to rev at my car... he must have seen my ricer exhaust.... anyways i reved back and then he took off... so i followed and pulled up pretty fast... at the next light he laughs at me and asks if i want to race... I say sure lets go from a roll. Light turns green and i shift into second at around 20 (2nd tops out at 60) we do the three honks and take off... To my surprize I am only at back bumper and I keep it there past second and powershift into third, at this point i am up to his driver door. He looks over and cant believe it, I continue to wind it out and drop back to his bumper, at around 90 shift into 4th at this point he gains about a half car and thats about it... the subaru tops out at 140 (done several times on expressway) and i raced him to about 120 bc the light on this highway turned yellow.... Well he was able to stop but i had old breaks and they couldnt slow me down in time, i rolled through the light at about 5mph, good thing it was a one way and no one was coming i was embarassed and just kept going.. At the next light he pulls up and gives me the thumbs up and says he couldnt believe i could hold on like that.

I needed to get my $.02 in. I used to own an M3, although it was a short ownership. I could run low 13's all day, and the car was stock. It was a 2003 BMW M3 E46. So, taking that in, if you say approx, you could run a 1/4 and end up to about 90 or so, then you were racing a guy that did not at all know how to drive. If I were in that M3, you would have seen the tailights and soon nothing but my exhaust trails. If you put DR's on it, it would run mid-high 12's. Either way, what the hell was the point of the story?

I guess my point was that after reading the previous stories I remembered my experience and came to two conclusions. 1.Knowing how to drive your caris important when racing 2. The 2.2ltre boxer was a hell of a sleeper................ and also just for your entertainment, sorry to take up space in the forum
