Default Two LS1s race

This is not my race or even anyone that I know I just happened to witness a cool race on the way to school. I was driving to school today and at the on ramp about 100 yards ahead of me I see two f-bodies pull on the highway. One of them I recognized as the yellow auto WS6 from around where I live, the other was an SS maro. The WS6 is stock as far as I know, it even has the stock exhaust. This camaro however sounded mean. They get on and I see the all to familiar highway line up. They are rolling at about 50 mph when I get to them then I hear the SS downshift and both take off like abat out of hell. The WS6 was pulling really strong but the SS was flying like cars I only see at the track. I swear from where I was it looked like the front tires were about to come off the ground. Just as I get off the highway I see the SS at the gas station. I had some time before class so I stopped. When I asked the guy what he had done all he said was a full exhaust and the lid and MAF and stuff like that, no motor work or no F/I. I knew that the LS1s could be fast but I never witnessed a car that fast without motor work or F/I, this really makes me want to abandon my Mach 1 dreams and go for a Z28.

Don't give up on the Mach1... just a 4.10+ gear in a Mach will make your jaw drop..... they mod well and perform similar to an LS1 to begin with (save for the auto)

All I know is the guy told me what he did and everything he did I could do in my driveway, the Mach 1 neads to crack open the rear to even stand a chance. Don't get me wrong for stlye and just all around pride I would take the Mach 1 but for half the price I could get a sick Z28 and do a few things and have it move. My girlfriend who knows nothing about cars was even like "Damn! that car is fast!"

I am only opening a few disbelievers eyes. I never really belived how fast the LS1s could be with only a few basic bolt-ons, call it denial, call it hope(for ford), call it what ever you will, but after today I am a firm believer in the LS1.

The SS was red with a white stripe that ran right up its hood scoop. Thats not a bad find, but I have seen the 2001-2002 go for that much with half the miles. Its hard to find them but its possible. Believe me after I talked to the guy I wanted to go home and puke. This thing made the WS6 look slow, and those things are no slouches either. This SS just made me a believer in the "touched by the hand of god" shirt. It was nuts how fast it was with out opening up the engine or rear.

The LS1 resonds insanely well to common mod's.

My bud's '02 WS6 ran 12.8 with only Lid (Air Filter thing), Tune and Muffler. It wasn't even a full exhaust, just a Flowmaster. I didn't believe the LS1 was that fast either until I saw his time slip. He pulls my '05 every time,. and I can't keep up with him on the highway...

Don't mess with LS1's unless you have a Power Adder, like NOS, Supercharger, etc...

Was the SS an auto or a 6-speed? I ran 12.7 with an auto and no tuning. I guess on paper, a 6-speed and 3.42 gears could give me about 3 tenths and a decent tune maybe 2 more, so actually that guy might be able to do 12.3 if he's been tuned. On paper, anyway.
