Race fuel question
I wondering what I should be looking for. I found 100 octane low lead a few miles from my house. Otherwise known as airplane fuel. I'mwondering if this is what I should be MIXING with my regular fuel. I know our cars and catalytic convertors don't do well with lead so it concerned me. I was thinking of adding a few (1-2) gallons to my 3-4 gallons prior to going to the track.
you should be able to get upwards of 109 (or even higher) unleaded racing fuel. call around to some performance shops, they can sell it to you in 1-5 gallon increments usually.
100 octane shouldnt be leaded at all, if it is, it is not for automotive use at all. i can get 100 octane in a pump here (unleaded) and even some 106 in the pump at some stations.

you want no-lead.. look for VP Fuels or Sunoco 100. VP can be bought in Cans from speed shops

Leaded fuel will screw up 02 and wideband sensors after a while as well... but only if you run it very frequently.
It looks like 101 octane is about the best you can get unleaded (at the motor). Leaded fuel is money though because it adds a further margin of safety against knock.
Check out VP's website for a breakdown of all of the fuels they make and specific applications for each one.

Thanks guys for the info. I don't want to put leaded fuel in my carand screw up any sensors or my injectors. I am turbo charged and was just looking for little bit of added insurance for making some passes tonight. I wanted to race but I think it's going to be closed tonight due to weather. Overcast, cool and it's forecasted to rain.
Isn't high humidity air bad for racing? I know cool is good but humidity seems bad.
