I wasn't impressed with the 05's when I ran into one a couple of days ago. A friend and I were meeting up with some people for dinner and a cocky guy in an 05 GTO with paper tags decides he wants to play. My friend put his LS1 m6 Formula into 2nd at 45 the GTslow takes off and we quickly caught him and pulled 3 cars or more. GTO's are a sad excuse for a muscle car IMO, I think GM flopped on this one.

I agree with him. They do not impress me they should have kept the maros around. But i guess it is a better marketing strategy when you start making them again.

Mid 13's outta the factory for the LS1 GTO's. The LS2 GTO's should better that with their improved suspension and a measily 400hp.

LMAO!!! Yeah, with a PROFESSIONAL driver, a great track and some even better tires. I have a buddy with a GTO and he cant break into the 13's to save his life! He's tried small burnouts... HUGE burnouts and no bunouts at all and nothing works. On street tires you cant hook worth a damn. Dont get me wrong though... im sure the power is there.

GTOs were meant to compete with Dodge Magnums (in my opinion). Look at the size of the car. They weren't designed to be real "performance" cars, just competitive with any other larger sedan, and I think it pulls THAT off well. Find me another full-size sedan with 4 doors that'll do a low 14 bone stock, or much better with tires that'll hook, and it gets much better from there.

Apples to Oranges comparison here.

How would a GTO (practicality wise anyway) be any comparison to the magnum? It doesn't have the trunk space, it doesn't have four doors. It's a performance oriented coupe that was given way way... WAY too much weight to haul around.

Much like the Marauder. I love the new Marauder, but it simply doesn't have enough power for the price.

Marauder + supercharger = mmmm....

When Im driving around I see some Vipers, Z06's, 03/04 cobra's, and cammed LS1's and I think respect. However when I see GTO's I think of a BMW coupe or something like it just doesn't give off that muscle car look or style IMO. As for its performance it is no where close to the cars above.

agreed there, it reminds me of a Cavalier in apperance.

update: the guy brought the car in today so we will see what happens after work.

Eh...the power is there. Just have to use it. How your stock Camaro pulled 3+ cars from a roll on an LS2 powered GTO is beyond me.

The new GTO is putting down 350+rwhp bone stock.

I'm just not a fan of the styling. I, however, love the powerplant.

I don't want to start a pissing contest here but the GTOs are heavy, and it wasn't a stock camaro it was a formula with a little bit of work done to it. My idea of fast is not the same as it is to other people, and the GTO makes good power but when you add in a 3800lb car then the weight of a driver it needs more power to keep up. Go race one and you might see what I mean.

O.K.

How is it not a "real" performance car?? Have you seen how they sit??? No need for a drop. A dodge magnum is a station wagon, the GTO is a coupe. 350 hp and a manual transmission and you think it's not a "real" performance car.

That is your opinion though.
