Challenger SRT8

Dodge really needs to jump on the aftermarket bandwagon like Ford has. It would really suck if you bought a Challenger and could never buy a supercharger or turbo for it.

So according to Chryslers press sheet.
4100 lbs (I mean wtf?!)
0-60 in low 5's
1/4 in mid 13's
And it needs 420hp to do this.
Has an IRS but the weight it's pushing it's not going to have the kind of handling the Monaro/GTO did.
So in summary Chrysler has made a overweight muscle car that barely competes with the mustang GT and is charging almost $40k for it.
When I saw the concept I was enthralled with the design but I probably had more nostalgia going into me than anything, which is what Chrysler is no dought shooting for in sales ala massive mark up in initial sales. The fact they haven't designed a manual tranny for this yet shows they aren't that serious about it from an enthusiest point of view.
Another thing that really bothers me is the night and day difference in the interior fron concept to production. The concept had an interior that was practial to build for a production to build. Lots of concepts are way out there because they are presentation pieces for companys, but the challengers seemed spot on. But in the production SRT8, it's nothing but flat black chunky plastic and fake suede everywhere. In a $40k car there's no excuse for this, muscle car or no. The mustang GT's actually looks nice by comparison, and thats just sad.
So this will no doubt be another GT500 story, a car sold on people who want cars for the name/badge and nostalgia. Not necessarily it's performance. And Chrysler will mark it up the wazoo.

I'm sure you could make it a fast car, it's just the price/performance factor. If they had put it in mustang GT price territory for the SRT8 or maybe a few thousand more, like $33k speced out. I wouldn't have any quams about it.
But they're charging too much for it for what it is. Goes against the original marketing of muscle cars.

I am just happy that my antique cheap 'pony' car can still keep up with todays 30 and 40 thousand dollar cars.
I like the look of the Challenger...still waiting to see how it runs though.
They need to cut the BS and make a Challenger SRT10... just get it over with.

I'll be the first to admit that I don't knoe a lot about the new Challenger other than it looks great. No offense to the Charger guys, but the Charger doesn't remind me of anything about the original. But the Challenger definitely harkens back to the days of old. Love the cars looks.
So no manual, huh? I wonder why? Dodge figured the car was going to be too good, and they needed to throw something in there to louse it up?
The limited production is going to make one of these really hard to 1) find and 2) afford. I bet you won't see to many modded ones either. When you pay they kind of premium for a car, it's hard to start modding it and running it hard....unless you have a lot of money and don't give a rat's ***. I bet alot end up in collections and not on the street/strip. Too bad. [X(]

for the first year, chrysler attempted to address the price gouging by putting out these few-option "special edition 6400". the only real options that you can pick from for these first 6400 is orange, black or silver..with or without sunroof, with or without navigation.
they "intend" to offer a V6 and 5.7L model, as well as a manual transmission for the 5.7 and 6.1. the reason that they went with the auto trans for this year, was because theyre hoping to minimize "bugs", so theyre using a transmission that has been behind this engine for a few years now, and has stood up to the abuse. the 6-speed trans is relatively untested, so they took the easy way out.

And thanks for explaining about the auto transmission. Makes sense.
