What happens? Does it just shut the engine off entirely when you hit the limiter?

How hard is a 4K dump on the clutch? I'm a little paranoid about trying it.

No - it pulls fuel and timing so that the engine rpms will drop down several hundred rpms, but if you keep your foot in it, it will go back up and hit the rev limiter again. Wash, rinse, repeat. It's no fun, so try to avoid it.

I think a 4k dump of the clutch is going to be harder on your tires than the clutch. Just try it and find out. Nothing is going to break. Maybe you should start at 2k and work your way up

If you haven't done it in a car with this much power, you might want to try a big deserted parking lot. If your wheels aren't exactly straight the *** end will drift onyou. You might also experience wheel hop which will feel like you are tearing your car apart.....or so I hear. I'm lucky and haven't had it, but, others say it really sucks. It won't take long and you will absolutely love dropping the hammer on these cars.

I'd have to agree with okbfd here OP.. When I first got the mach I practiced launching in a deserted Circuit City parking lot across the street from my apartment.. I haven'thad much wheel hop in the Mach so far, but the couple of times I had it happen it felt like a gigantic baby grabbed theundercarriageand started shaking the car.. LOLOL.. And yes, it sucks quite badly, and I don't know about the rest of the guys, but it bogs me down like all hell.. As many others have already said, practice, practice, practice.. Once you start getting your driver mod dialed in with some experience you'll enjoy the hell out of the car..

So if the wheels start hopping on me I should either let off the gas or give it more to get the car to come out of that right?

Get out of the throttle if the wheels start hopping.

Bickety's right.. I usually back out of the throttle, just not all the way.. Giving it more gas will either a) cause the hop to get worse, or b) break the tires loose and you'll just sit there and spin or go sideways. At least mine does anyway when I break mine loose, which is something you run into with a LSD (limited-slip differential), I'm just not sure if your car would have an LSD or not.. Somebody that knows'll correct me I"m sure, but I don't think the GT's had LSD's, just the Mach's and I'm fairly sure most Cobra's do too, though I could be wrong..

You'll get the hang of it with some seat time..

^ They have been putting T-Loks( Ford's LSD ) in V8 powered Mustangs for awhile. The OP has one, my 94 has one, even a '85 GT I test drove had a 2.73 T-Lok in the 7.5 rearend.

You'll know if you get wheel hop, it can get particularly violent sometimes. Just practice launching, and with the traction control OFF. For street tires, pick an rpm and launch so that you're slipping the clutch and giving it gas to keep the rpm up where there's good torque, and continue slipping as you accelerate as hard as you can without spinning(a little bit of spinning is ok, you don't want to just spin and sorta go nowhere though). Practice at a lower rpm and work your way up.
