new edge vs. Caliber SRT4
were are you getting your numbers you keep saying 40 more hp than a stock new edge but caliber only has 280hp and new edge 260hp stock. thats only 20hp difference. and tq does come in to play at 10 mile an hour its not like they were doing 50 or 60. [quote]ORIGINAL: bluebeastsrt

The problem is your mind is stuck in rear wheel drive. HP & Torque are a wonderful thing "IF" you have proper weight transfer. Weight transfers away from the drive wheels on the Caliber. A Caliber is going to just sit and spin anyway. A good sixty for the stang should be 1.9 to 2.0 where the caliber will be lucky to get a 2.1 on street tires.Gotta love front drive traction[:@]. So the Caliber is going to be a second half of the track car anyway. Your torque will help you outlaunch it. but the extra 40 horses is whats going to run you down on the big end or beat you in a roll race. Now with all that crap being said. I still believe a stang should take a caliber from a dig just because of the ease of operation. It's going to take more tallent to get the most out of the caliber.

Ok, but I love how you leaving out the whole 42lbs of tq defecit again. I guess torque means nothing in drag racing
[8D]
People get gears because it's a torque multiplyer, and will make a car an animal coming out of the hole. So with that in mind obviously torque IS important. With that said let's go over this again.........so you're saying that because the CSRT-4 has a 40-45 hp advantage over the Mustang it should be faster, yet 40-45lbs ft/tq advantage means nothing?! Something in that logic is obviously skewed!
Secondly until there is actual dyno's to prove they put 255-260 hp to the wheels, we'll assume they are 280HP to the flywheel like advertised. So with that in mind It's more like 240 to the wheels with a 15% drivetrain loss give or take a few hp from car to car.
So how again is this car so superior?

+1 find it real hard to belive that 42 lbs of tq difference and close to same weight that this car is even close. quarte mile 14.6 for caliber compared to stock new edge around 14.0 and heard of some doing 13.7completly stock.
Do you really think thats the best someone can get out of a caliber, consideringthey have a103 trap speed? I bet any experienced front drive drag racer can run in the 13s bone stock. Also a stock CSRT-4 is putting down 255 to 260 at the wheels where a new edge is putting down 220.

back when there was just talk about the new caliber SRT4 coming out I saw pictures of them and had my heart set on getting one... because I thought dodge got smart and made an AWD turbocharged 4 banger, looking at it they could have easily incorperated AWD and attracted a whole new crowd to dodge performance... esspessially since the new EVO X and STI's took such a drastic change in appearance that I'm sure some enthusiants would fall off and look for another AWD turbocharged car that is easily modded
but no, they kept the thing in the same category as the neon... only uglier
dodge really needs to step up to the plate on brain power and model design IMO[/blockquote]

Test Drive Impressions:
Stopped at a local dealer that had two CSRT4's on the lot, and drove both of them. Each for about 20 miles.
To make a long story short, this is a nice little car. Quite roomy, particularly back seat leg room. Fold the rear seats down and it becomes pretty versatile.
Engine:
Very smooth, a bit more refined than the old Neon engine. Power deliver is smooth, but the turbo takes a little longer to spool up than the Neon. Possibly due to it being a larger turbo.
Transmission:
Buttery smooth 6-speed trans. Linkage is very positive, and I ran it through the gears with ease. Shifter location is an improvement over the Neon also. It is higher up and provides better leverage.
Interior:
Well, to be fair, I like the layout very much, but they do skimp on hard plastic. Some soft touch plastics on the door and dash would do wonders, and a little more color or trim would be nice also. Also, closing the door hard was almost painful to hear. Not enough sound deadening material perhaps?
Seats are EXCELLENT.
Ride/Comfort:
Very impressive for this type of car. The car with the F1'semitted more road noise. Overall the ride is not at all harsh, and cabin noise is very acceptable. I'd do a little dynomat, just because I'm a freek about noise.
Verdict:
Ibought a black one for 23K.

Do they have a bigger turbo? I thought the CSRT-4 had the same mitsu. TDO4 as tyhe Neon. Just running a little more boost & fuel.

I think I read somewhere about it being a slightly larger turbo

It's a tdo4 but it's a 20G apposed to the Neons 16g So it is slightly bigger. Learn something new every dayhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dodge_Caliber
