YES this is a rant. If your sick of my rants you can stop reading now. But anyway....My August Car & Driver showed up in the mailbox yesterday and on the front cover in big yellow letters. America VS. The World! The ultimate track test. So I'm Stoked! Their going to run the American Badasses (Zo6 & Viper)against a GT2 and the Skyline. Well this should come to no ones suprise. The Viper SRT-10 ACR completely destroyed the other 3 car in this run what ya brung shoot out. They tested them at Buttonwillow raceway. And the viper was 4 seconds faster around the race track than the next closest car thePorsche GT2. Lap times, Viper-1.55.7, GT2-1.59.7, Skyline GT-R-2.01.1 Corvette Z06-2.01.7! Ok thats an *** wooping but it gets better! The Viper also had the best 1/4 mile time of 11.8@126. The Porsche did manage to tie the Vipers 11.8but it only trapped 121. The Corvette was clocked at 11.9@124[8D]and the GT-R pulled up the rear with a sad 12.6@111. Breaking, Viper! 6 feet better than the next best car. Skidpad, Viper with a 1.08G to the next best 1.03 in the Corvette! Theothers didn't even break a G!50 MPH to 70 MPH lane change? Anyone wanna guess what won?. The Viper swept every performance catagory. Now here are the rankings. In 4th place......The Corvette ZO6in 3rd place......The Viper SRT-10 ACR[:@]Second place went to the GT2. And to be honest the porsche did deserve this placement. But first place to the GT-R????
WTF? When you compare luxuary cars. Talk about the leather and the refinement. When you compare econboxes compare fuel milage. When you compare performance cars....Duh use performance to decide the winner. The Skyline won because it was the easiest to operate. Well if it was so easy to operate why couldn't they put up better numbers with it? I know this isn't the right section for this thread but it'll give us something to debate. Ok rant's over.

It's geared towards the everyday reader/driver. That being said the GTR would probably beat the Viper. I can't imagine 20% of the population having the capability in the seat to get the best out of the SRT-10. The same cannot be said for the GTR. Does it make their placement right? Of course not. Relevant? Yes...

 

The Corvette is too damn low on your list.JK!Get used to it,Car and driver tests cars based on one point and grades on another.Like tthe teachers pet in school,They obviously have their favorites regardless of the results.I haven't read the article but I'll bet the final results are something like this"While the Viper kicked *** in all catergories,It is just to expensive and raw to be a real track car".Am I close?Has to be some mention of the lack of all wheel drive and some other bull**** I'm sure.When A test is performed,The results should determine the winner,If we wanted an opinion based winner we would post a forum poll.

Personally I like the GTR and think itcompetes pretty well considering it's 120hp disadvantage. I fully understand the test your taliking about but have seen it pull better numbers. Once you get away from stock vs. stock and modding comes into play, I think the GTR will shine with exclusive company many think it has no business screwing with. The others can make more power but they won't have the capability and drivability to make use of it in the same manor as the GTR. It's a modern day NSX with AWD that's just begging for more power. With 480 it's great, with more look out on the road course...

 

You're right, those damn sissies at Nissan don't know anything about building anything raw. The original Skyline (the one the pundits chose over the Enzo as the best performance car ever?)rode on marshmellows didn't it? For ****s and giggles, check out how MotorTrend dynoed the 2009 GTR due to doubts regarding Nissans HP TRQ claims. I'll let you read the article but the car is M6-esque. They revealed 507HP and 500TRQ. Seems about right doesn't it? How else could such a heavy underpowered car stick it out with such superiority from the U.S and Europe? I'm putting on my flame retardent 'jammies and going to bed now. Give me your worst...

 

The ACR Viper is badass. 1.08Gs is who's your daddy status. And even the Z06 would do better without the Goodyear runcraps,but it is what it is. 1.03 wasn't bad.

C&D has really, really, really been pissing me off lately too. It started with the Viper kicking the Z0-6s *** and of course the Vette won the rating, then they call a friggin Hyundai a Stang killer when it's not even close in performance, it continues with anything BMW taking first place despite far superior performance numbers out of the competitors........BUT this takes the friggin cake. When a car clearly dominates in every category and they rate it third place those sorry bastards have completely gone around the bend and have started wearing panties and skirts. It just hasn't been the same post Brock Yates.The only reason I keep my suscription is they usually turn out the best times in their road tests because they do flog the living ****e of the car to see what it will do, but, I'm really sick of the mini van shootouts and their rating BS. I hope someone from C&D actually reads this forum because I will not be renewing my subscription.
