why would he put in a cam and not get rid of the boat anchor heads?

and this isnt the corral, no average fox will run high 13s, if its a notch i can see him having a chance, otherwise you should have it but not blow him away

5 speed notch would prob do mid 14s, auto verts will do high 15s

Which cam is he claiming to have?

My little cousin has a 93 Fox with an E-Cam, and no other mods other than 3.73s and mid-lengths...in other words, it's possible he did a cam only, stranger things have happened.
I'll tell you this much. It's pretty unlikely that he did a cam only, and nothing else on a speed density car. [&:]
1. It could be a CA car (They had MAF in 1988)
2. It could be a mild cam (Crower made a popular grind for SD cars).
3. It could have a MAF conversion (Yes, I know but since it was stock on some 88s).
3. Computer Mods (Most NHRA Stockers run Speed Density setup with BIG duration cams and its required by the cam which is already known).

Cam - Maybe because you didnt want to cage it? High 11s can be done with stock heads.
Admittedly its easier with aftermarket heads.
If it has the stock intake you dont gain that much from aftermarket heads anyway.

A 1989 Notch with Freebie mods would run 13.8 with a 1.9 60 on stock Gatorbacks.
A Hatch would run 13.9. A GT would run Low 14s.
Stone stock they were generally 14.2-14.8 cars.
Thats in good air with a good driver.
3.08 cars with manual.
2.73 cars were 0.2 slower.

Yes, I am aware HOW to do it. But it's still pretty unlikely. I do have an '88 that was SD for a long time. It's not as easy as it sounds to mod them and have it run correctly.

Can it be done? Sure. But why?

Ripped Camel - you know better then to magazine race [&:]

To the OP I think with these guys, I highly doubt that's all he has... regardless, depending on the options on the car you might be in for a serious beatdown... How fast have you driven your car? Your car with most drivers stock is mid 14 second car and some drivers in the high 14's.. and your intake/catback really won't help you... so your car is basically stock unto itself... I think you lose this race personally... If that guy can drive you might be SOL... better practice.
