A buddy of mine has an 06 WRX that he is just about to finish swapping a VF39 and FMIC onto. He keeps talking all this crap about how fast the car is going to be, and how every performance car around here is in trouble. Does anybody know how much power a VF39 swapped WRX at 18 psiwith a FMIC puts down?(wrxtransformed or anybody who knows about imports) From what I understand the VF39 is just an STI turbo and as long as he gets the right map for it, it should be comparable to any STI with the same mods. His car has a TBE, uppipe, cobb accessport, intake, and a snow meth injection kit. When I raced him when he just had the TBE I was ahead everytime by about 1-2 lengthsto 100, but now I think he'll be putting bus lengths on me.

 

he will probably be making just as much or maybe a little more than a rugular STI just becuase he is modded with TBE. The turbo is tad bigget but nothing crazy so keep modding

Wrong. Both the STI and 06+ WRXs use the same 2.5 liter block. The difference is in the heads in which the WRX has an advantage because they run higher compression. 06 WRXs with a VF-39 conversion, STI TMIC and TBE will routinely put down more HP and torque than aStage 2(TBE and tune) STI due to the compression. Nevermind a stock STI as a VF-39'd WRX will blow it out of the water.

The correct answer is really dependant upon the tune. To the OP, is he getting a dyno tune? If so, he'll put down just north of 300 AWHP with a FMIC in a 3100 pound car. If he's using some sort of canned tune he'll be south of 300. Either way, it'll be quick.

 

He said he's getting it dyno tuned by some subaru shop in NJ. How much do you think he'll make with the meth? I forgot to mention that he hooked it up before the swap but never used it because he was waiting on his tune.

 

I'm not all that familiar with meth, but without it he'll be slightly north of 300 AWHP with that front mount. It'll be a fast car regardless. The question will be how that 5-speed holds up. My money's on him needing an STI 6-speed swap in short order.

 

If it was one of the older WRXs he'd probably be ~300whp on meth. The VF39 is a tiny turbo. The 06+ WRXs seem to respond a lot better to mods, so I'd guess he be somewhere north of 300whp.

 

So why does he think his car is going to be so fast? From what you guys are saying and from what I understand about his car it should be just like an STI with the same mods, right?

I dont know about 'so fast', but a 300+ AWHP car that weighs 3100 pounds is going to be pretty fast. From a dig it will be nasty but from a roll not so much. The thing I hated about both my 02 and 06 WRX was fear of breaking the glass tranny.
