2009 Challenger
a few things..
first, no, the 2008s are not open diff. that is nonsense spread on internet forums based on a crappy photoshop by chrysler.
second, once the 2009s come out, they will offer much better gearing choices. the current models are all 3.06 rearends, but the manual RT models come with 3.73 or 3.91, and all of the manual srt models come with 3.91. so its not just a little more power than the current hemi...its more power, more gearing, a manual transmission, shorter wheelbase and slightly less weight than the current charger rt with the 5.7L "hemi". will they run 12s stock? probably not, as its not an LSX car...and those are the only vehicles ever capable of running in the 12s stock...but they might at least keep up with the current stock s197 GT...but how long will ford let the challenger have a hp advantage???
ive seen a bunch of preproduction 09s, and none were manual transmissions...i would be shocked if chrysler would send a preprod to race on the east coast, since most of their testing is done in michigan and out west. i wouldnt say that its out of the question, but id be surprised if they sent an 09 to an event like that, especially in what looks to be the 08 colors. it looks like orange and silver to me...orange isnt offered in the 09 models, and from what ive seen so far, the 09 mules are wearing a gun metal color...darker than the silver on the 08 models. the mopar nationals are this weekend, and im sure that there will be plenty of challengers there, and if mopar is sending 09s out to run, i would think that they would show them off at the biggest mopar event in the world. so i hope to get some decent information on what theyre capable of, as too many people here are writing them off based on crap they read on the internet...we all know that internet forums arent reliable sources of info...

Of course.
To suggest Nate and his brother can't drive is stupid. They have more drag experience than most of you. What's so shocking? The cars are heavy, and the stock tires are not going to get those things moving quickly off the line.
As with the vett, I believe DR's are going to be a MUST for these cars to get moving and I think those times are about exactly what owners are going to see in stock form.
I'm not hatin' here as I like them. I think they have mad potential for power and I love the starting powerplant, but just like everybody else, they are going to take some modding to capitolize on the them.

I believe the cars were driven by Nate Pritchett and his brother.
yep - I'm not saying they are class racers or even in the realm of a top driver, but they are not just Joe's off the street either and have been drag racing for quite some time.
Could better times be had? - Of course. But in stock form I don't think these cars are 'way off' as some are implying in this thread. I don't think there's a chance in hell they will see a 12 sec slip right off the showroom. Just as the vett, in stock form, these things are going to have trouble the first 100 ft.

oddly enough I don't care for certain angles of the challenger and am not too thrilled with the performance,
but (this is the odd part)the new drag racing package that Mopar will be offering looks like pure sex IMOand is a garunteed 11 second car in SRT8 form (or so I've heard)... I'm sorry, this is just badass

i think that the srt auto challengers are capable of stock 12s, as people HAVE done it with chargers and 300s with practice. there is a guy around here running one, and hes in the 13.1-13.2 range.
oh, and from what ive heard, unless the "news" is wrong...those challenger race models are a joke. they are not able to be registered for street use, and they only have 525hp. they are only supposed to make a handful of them, and the cost is going to be SUPER high. they are supposed to be factory production racers, like the hemi darts and hemi cudas of the 60s, but those cars ran 10s when most cars on the street would be lucky to run in the 14s. now, most performance cars run in the 13s, and this thing only runs in the 11s? come on...

this article says that they will only cost 30 ish, but ill have to see that to believe it. the original "challenger super stock" was supposed to be quite a bit more expensive than the srt model...but do you think that they are going to offer a super limited edition, race only, 6.1 powered challenger for 10,000 less than the street model? again..ill believe it when i see it.
