Why is that? I know doing work on the WRX is a PITA, having helped my friend put in a cobb up pipe, DP, and turbo back. Jesus, we were at it all day for a friggn pipe swap. But he felt the gains were good.
You get good gains from modding both cars, but the 4G63 platform has been around a lot longer than the EJ20 and EJ25. There's a bigger & cheaper aftermarket for them, you can pull the cams literally right out for an easy swap and iirc the block is a little more stout than the EJ series. Have you guys tried to do the ****ing injectors on a WRX yet? The Green Bracket of Death doesn't get its name for no reason haha
My buddy has an EVO MR, all he has done is a catless exhaust, intake, boost controller, 272 cam swap and a custom tune from Shiv @ Vishnu and he ran 12.2s on pump gas. Not shabby! Not too many Subarus are getting there for that little invested.
From what I remember, the diffs and clutches were the two major weak points in the EVO... but those are easy fixes if you're going for big power. Maybe some of the EVO guys can chime in here.

if your an auto like me, there a good threat as they can scream off the line (well, for a 4cly they can) that AWD get's them up and moving fast.
when i raced my friend he always had me by a car or two, but i have a stock stall converter, if i was manual, i would have been dead even, or passing him.
Im getting rid of my mustang when im finished restoring 1 and build the engine for the other.Buying a evo with the money. I still have another mustang body but i want a nice AWD car i can drive in the winter and it still be badass on gas and fun for the summer.
