4.0 vs 5.0!
About a week ago i raced my buddy's '95 manual 5.0 from a 15mph roll on a frontage road outside town. I was about to head home after cruzin in town and he was right beside me so we slowed on the frontage to about 15 and on my 3 honks we gunned it and were dead even as I got on the ramp (he stayed on the frontage), we continued on till about 100 when i let off (for fear of cops) neck and neck the entire way, it wasn't a kill but i ain't gonna bitch about tieing in a 4.0/5.0 showdown.
I have a '08 4.0 auto v6 with Nitto 555s on 18s; a Pypes mid-muffler catback exhaust; one of those Autozone "Spectre" air filters in place of the airbox; and a fiberglass hood
Hes got a '95 5.0 manual v8 on 17s with Sumitomos; some sort of exhaust piping (not stock/loud as hell); one of those same Autozone filters; an msd distributor and coil; msd ignition wires; and apparently cams (doubt it)

I guess those sixers are more potent than I've given them credit for. I can't believe I've finally been sigged, thanks 97plsGT that was a good thread you clipped that from!
No surprise on your races outcome, SN-95 5.0's are sloooooow and an after market cam doesn't do **** for a 5.0 w/stock heads.
I'm pretty suprised an auto 4.0 took out a manual 5.0
The 94-95's aren't that much slower than a fox (I guess that extra 100 pounds makes a hugggge difference right)
You would probably know if he had a cam, those cars idle like crap with a aftermarket cam

We went again Saturday night on a lonely road outside of town (this time from a dig). Both of us had pretty good starts and were even off the line, I pulled slightly ahead through 1st, then 2nd a lil more, and through 3rd i had about a car on him but once we hit around 95mph he started catching up and by about 110mph was ahead of me so i hit the O/D button and cruised to the govern(115) in 5th. So to sum it up i had him through the 1/4mile but in 4th and 5th gear he had me, caught up and pulled away. I had honestly expected the 5.0 to get the better of me. He seems to shift quick enough and hes had that car for a while now, i only wonder if driving had to do with the outcome or if these cars are really that good of a match.
The 5.0 should of won. but every car is different, theres alot of things that come into play, could be driving but a big thing is that 5.0 s are getting old and most have been abused, there could be some thing wrong this his car or the engine is tired.
Agreed. A healthy stock 5.0 should be enough to take down a 4.0 auto that weighs considerably more. If it was a solid motor he should have gotten you early and slowly pulled until he shifted into useless 5th..
