Kerns vs R/T Charger and Turbo Eclipse
R/T Charger's mods were Diablo Sport Tuner and Exhaust. We ran a couple of times from low speed rolls 20mph. Started in First and pulled about half a car through first, another car through 2nd, and another car through 3rd. By the end of 3rd he was 2 1/2 cars back so I didn't feel the need to keep putting it on him in 4th. We did 1 run from a dead stop where I instantly put a car on him and put about 2 cars on him to 50mph when I shut down due to traffic.
Turbo Eclipse was completely riced out. Huge aluminum wing, body kit, graphics, big exhaust. At first I completely dismissed it and kind of laughed at it to a friend of mine. Then the girl pulls up next to me with her bf in the passenger seat and she punches it. I hear a turbo spool up and then the BOV goes off. I instantly change mindsets from cruising in 5th at 45mph to catching up to the Eclipse. We then slowed down to 35mph and I dropping it into 2nd. I let the Eclipse get on it first and then stopped her pull, and put about a car on her to about 60-65mph when I shut down.

Yeah, typically the more "tricked" out the outside of those kinds of cars is, the slower they are. I was very surprised that she actually had a turbo in the car. Wasn't that impressive, but had I been stock it probably would have been a very close race.

if it was an eclipse with a BOV, the odds are better than not that the car wasnt put together properly. most DSMs running a BOV that you can hear are pure ricers, as the BOV does more harm than help.
ever had your car down the track?

I have not taken my car to the track yet. There is one about 5 miles from my house though so I'll be going sometime fairly soon. They have midnight drags there, but for some reason it has rained pretty much every Saturday since the track has opened so I have yet to have a chance to get out there.

It was probably a mostly stock GSX or GST lol Probably just had exhaust and a BOV for sound lol. She thought she was the ****! lol
A buddy of mine had 3 different DSMs in maybe 1 year and ALWAYS had problems. I would hardly ever see him driving the cars, he was always borrowing other people's car lol An other buddy of mine had an Auto N/A eclipse with every bolt on you could imagine... and I raced him in my 4 banger Tiburon(that ran a 17.3 lol) and beat him by a car lol
I know they can be made to be fast... but you just don't see it happening anymore.

a friend of mine has a 95 sebring coupe, which is basically a non turbo eclipse. he has an aftermarket clutch and a 65 shot, and ran in the high 14s. without the bottle, it was high 15s...with something like 170,000 miles on it.
they have problems because theyre fairly high performance cars (for what they are) and people buy them to drive them hard. my 1st gen turbo awd is near stock and ran 9.2-9.3 in the 8th mile...go to any import event, or any event with a 4 cylinder class and see what runs the show. they have problems because morons who dont take care of them buy them and run them into the ground, then sell them to other morons who come onto forums and whine about a 16 year old car that made 200+ hp from a 4 cylinder and they want to know why riding around bouncing off the rev limiter it bad for it.
"dsms are nothing but problems" is clearly from someone who has never owned one, or had the chance to take one out and trash it. mine is my winter driver, and it makes for a fun car in the snow and when its nice out. the car handles like its on a rail, and runs pretty well for what it is...it also gets great mileage on long highway trips. ive had some issues with mine, but when its running right (which is more often than not), its great fun to drive. now, i do get what i call "diamond star migranes", when the car just isnt going to be agreeable, and im sure that every other DSM owner understands...but depending on the day i either love it or hate it. theyre trouble, but no more than any other performance car from the early 90s, and they have alot to offer when taken care of...
