GT vs RSX Type S
#11
The RSX type s has a k20z3 rated at about 210 hp, the j spec engines are about 225, even with bolt ons and a hondata tune he'd be at about 260 hp. I can't see someone spending all that money to have a motor shipped over to the US for maybe 15-20 hp more, so maybe its just a regular k20 with bolt ons.

The K20Z3 is in the 2006-up Civic SI, the RSX-S has the Z2. Its supposedly making 205 at the flywheel. The SI with the Z3 is rated at 197, but it is a better engine, so I'm assuming that the SI is using SAE corrected HP where the RSX isn't. Anyway, the OP should've put a hurting on this RSX. Bolt-ons don't exactly do wonders for those cars. The Hondata tune helps, as does the header, but its not going to be anything amazing, maybe a couple or three tenths. 14.0 is what a supercharged RSX should be running IMO, on street tires anyway. This race sounds off to me, really off. A 4.10 geared S197 is supposed to embarrass a RSX. Maybe he's hiding a bottle?
I have an automatic so a high roll really does not do the car much justice.
I hate to sound like a broken record, but with the cut outs closed, I can tell the car is just not as fast as they are when opened. It usually does ALOT better from a roll... tops out the car REAL quick as well.

Just to settle the engine discussion. The 06+ civic si has the k20z3 rated at 197hp, 139 ft-lbs. The 05-06 RSX-S has the k20z1 rated at 210hp (SAE corrected 201hp) while the pre 02-04 RSX-S had the K20A2 rated around 200hp. The stock type-s does have 4.77 gears so it will do fairly well from a roll but stock vs stock against an s197 GT the stang will take it every time. Intake/Race header/Exhaust/Hondata tune will definately help a lot plus you were in what appears to be a dead spot for you and what I know is a sweet spot for the RSX.

well, considering we both trap the same speed.. from a high roll, he definitely has the advantage being lighter and also a manual. I raced a few RSXs and they were no were near as quick as this one I raced.
You're right, he could have alot more done then I think.
To be honest, with the mods I have- from a roll it falls flat at around 80 or so.
You can only expect so much from 270whp/3400 lbs. lol

I also have cutouts... I know it kills the torque bottom end... but do you really think its that bad when your at a roll? i feel that its the same. Fastlane out here in houston told me that its good for a 5-7hp increase top-end (since im already running no cats with longtubes).
