Tried again.. FAIL
Hold the throttle on the line at a certain rpm. I hold 3000 rpms. Pop the clutch and when the car catches up, mat it. Is there any VHT on the track? If it bogs, try 3500 rpms. If you blow the tires off at 3000, try 2500 etc. It takes practice. I've been on tracks that I'm sideways in 2nd gear, I've also been on tracks where a guy backing up a Pro Mod literally ran out of his shoes. They were stuck to the track and he was in his socks on a drag strip. But you have to race the track, don't go by what other people say. YOU have to experiment.
DR's like they said or practice. The ONLY S197's that beat me are manuals on DR/slicks. They running 13.9's to my 14.1's. They out launch me. They get a quick 3/4 - 1 car on me and we stay that way for the entire 1320. If they're on street tires....well, I haven't lost yet.
At this point I'd be happy with a consistent 2.2 or less. 2.2 is what the car gets with the TC turned on. I need to at least be a be able to match the machine and not be to far behind Mishri.
I've been twice so far this year for around 20 passes. It'll be a bit before I go again. When I do I'll go out and screw around a little bit the day before. I just wonder how long I can keep this up trying to figure out the launch before I break something. I'm a bit paranoid about trashing the car before I get it paid off.

Yep you definitely want to be able to do "as good as" the machine. I was reading a comparo this weekend between the Maro SS, Challenger R/T, and '10 Mustang. The Maro ran in two modes. TC on and TC off. TC on was something like 5.2 0'60 mph and a 1/4 of 13.4ish? That's 2010 Stang territory. Driver mod (same driver as before) was 5.0 0-60 and 13.0 1/4 mile or something to that effect. Anyways, moral of the story, the dude knew how to rip it. His trap speed was also a few mph higher than the TC'd run.
So, a litte off topic here, if you run into the new Maro SS (in stock form) in either a lightly modded S197GT or a stock 2010 GT it's a Drivers race.

I have to disagree with the new Camaro SS being close to a stock 2010 GT. I think the SS should edge it out.
Nevermind, this is getting the thread off track. Don't worry about it.

The stock clutch is easy to drive with but one thing I've never been real thrilled about is the travel. For racing I'd like a clutch where the engagement/disengagement points are near 1/2 travel on the pedal. With the stock clutch it needs to come out almost 3/4 before it hits that point.
Yes, dump it at 3000 rpms and when the car catches up, mat it. If it bogs try a higher rpm. Blow the tires off, lower rpm. Holding the throttle at a certain rpm helps you focus on the tree I find.
I'm not getting wheel hop dude. LCA alone should be plenty good for 315hp..
I get some people telling me to slip it, some telling me to rev and pop the clutch. What am I supposed to think at this point? Only thing I can do is go out and play some more and try again. I plan on trying to settle on 2400-2600rpm next time and slipping it. See what happens. After 10 tries if I can't do squat then for the hell of it I'll rev to 3000 and pop the clutch then try to stab it once it catches up.

Jesus christ man, get some real tires. It will be easy after that. Second time out with my DRs I cut a 1.74 and I consistently get 1.8x. The absolute worst launch I had on DRs (spinning badly) was a 2.0.
You are currently bringing a knife to a gun fight. You can analyze the crap of this situation, drop, slip, what rpm, blah, blah, but at the end of the day the most critical element is severly lacking.
Sorry for my bluntness, but 4 pages for this topic is silly.
