Do you think the 4.10 would actually make things harder for me? I kind of figured they should. Mishri told that he got his 2.1 60' times only after the gears went on. The year before w/the 3.31 he was always getting 2.4s.

I'm inline with your comments regarding the rev and hold, then slip. Some people have suggested popping the clutch and catching up, then stabbing it. Seemed to me that would be bog-city and not as efficient as slipping it.

I know from your PMs that you were launching on street tires at around 2400-2600.

The 4.10s will give a lot less room for error to get that perfect launch on street tires, thats for sure.

Mishri can only luanch his car at what, 1500-2000 rpms? Not much power there, the 4.10s will help him get to his power more quickly. Its hard to compare an auto to a manual. His car is all or nothing. Your car you can moderate how much power you want to get to the wheels with the clutch.

Autos are awesome for when you have your setup dialed in, you get the same thing everytime (and when the conditions are perfect for you setup, you can't get any better). A manual will allow you to adapt to your situation much more easily, but you aren't going to get the consistency.

Yeah he revs to 2000 from what he's told me. Pretty much every time. Same results, same methodry. I don't care about the consistency so much as wanting to be able to at least tear off a great run once in a while.

My plan next time is to try reving to around 2500 +/- 200 and try experimenting with different rates of slippage.

That's pretty much the general area I used.

Trust me, when you do hit that great launch (you'll know it, you will feel the difference) and hopefully bang all the gears perfectly, it will make all the lead up time seem so insignificant.

Just talking about it makes me want to go to the track right now!

I know it's a ton of fun even when I suck. Just a little bit disappointing to not get where I want to be with it. We have street legal night again on 9/7 so I'll be out there for it.

How many tries did it take you to get good at this anyway?

A LOT!! More than two or three times to the strip, thats for sure. As long as you keep going with some kind of consistency, you will get better, that is soooo important.

lol we all like to think we are naturally gifted drivers. I remember reading about people hitting 12.8s with only intake/tune and was like, 'ah, I can do that'..

I was actually disappointed when I couldn't even break into the low 13s when I first got the 4.10s installed lol. Took me two trips to the track and a few dozen runs to really get good at launching. Autos aren't always easy to launch, especially with the 4.10s... but they do help. Pretty sure the car can pull some 13.0s if I get the 60 ft. down to 1.9ish..

lol I can't wait to see what happens if I end up with a GT500 or a manual corvette. I swear next time I'm gonna tell the people in the tower personally that it's a manual car and my first time out there with it. That way everyone in the crowd doesn't start wondering why the hell I run a 13 with it.

Maybe I oughta just wait until I get drag radials before I bother. :/

You know anywhere good around here to practice Rip? Thought I might play around a bit before I head to the track the first time.

Well there are some OK places to practice. A lot of it revolves around when you do it. Early sunday mornings - the streets are deserted around here. Also, late in the evening on weekdays isn't bad. Figure after 11PM.

There is a stretch of road over by 24th and King Ave. If you are on 24th going south pass through the intersection and to your right a couple hundred yards down (past old chicago) there is a right turn only. That is Overland and is a good stretch of road. I would *always* cruise the length of it first to check for cops and other hazards. Another option is to head out to the Heights past the old Kmart. Take a left onto the road going out towards Roundup. That is a nice straight stretch of road. I would also cruise down it a ways before trying it just to make sure there aren't any cops or anyone else around. Also no deer.
