EXACT same thing happened to me running an impala ss when I was stock on 20's. I blew the rear tires, while his land yacht pulled away w/o a traction problem and I didn't have the room to catch him light-light. Big, heavy car, auto, easy to launch. He was grinning like a cat at the next stoplight lol.

 

Lighter rims and better tires would help you a bunch. What motor comes in those car?

 

Ideal conditions/driver 14.1 @ 101mph, most of them seem to be mid 14s @ ~99mph
